This afternoon we drove up to see the grandkids. I took along my handsewing kit because DGS (age 6) wanted the patches (pack number, etc.) sewn on his Cub Scout shirt. On a whim, I also took along a ziplock bag full of assorted 4" squares of fabric. Of course, DGS and DGD (almost 4 years old) were interested in how I sewed the patches on the shirt. I asked if they wanted to learn to sew. Of course, they did, so I got out the bag of squares and had them pick out 2. I marked stitching lines, threaded needles and knotted them, and showed them how to do the running stitch. They had a good afternoon. DGS ended up with a little bag that was supposed to be a sleeping bag for a small doll, then a bag for his scissors and finally ended up as a bag for his dad's remote control. DGD sewed 2 adjacent sides together and decided it was a "red riding hood" for her doll; then she had me sew 2 more pieces on so it was like a cape. Then I had to make another one with bears for another doll. A good time was had by all :)
