A quilt for a Katrina survivor

So many of you dear hearts have asked for an address for sending quilts into our area - but I have not known of a reliable collection address until now. I didn't want you sending anything that would just lay in a box in a center's parking lot - wet and ignored. Most people who were helping here were roofing or gutting mildewed walls - that sort of urgent job. The student council at a local high school has taken on the project of getting warming things and distributing them. Their address is PHS Student Council, 1716 Tucker Street, Pascagoula MS

39567. If you would like to send blankets or quilts - this is a group that will be sure to take them to hug somebody that really needs a warm hug. Bless their hearts and yours. I am so grateful for your concern and your prayers. Polly

Another option....

I don't know about you, but I've noticed that I and some other quilters over the years end up in sort of this situation:

"Hmm, now that I'm making quilts, I don't need all these blankets that we owned before I started doing that, and some of them are still very nice blankets."

I don't know how many of you read the comic strip Arlo & Janis in the newspapers. Cartoonist Jimmy Johnson has his own site, and has been posting about the devastation in Pass Christian, Mississippi. There's information on the site about the relief efforts there, and an address for donating new or *good* used blankets for the folks there.

I don't know if they're okay with quilts---I've written Jimmy about it---but I thought I'd post about the blankets anyhow in the meantime.

*** If you want to contribute new blankets--or clean, used blankets in good condition--I can assure you they will be put to good service. You can send them to: Gary Reid, Menge Avenue Distribution Center, Menge Ave & 2nd St, Pass Christian, MS, 39571 ***

You can see a lot about Pass Christian, the destruction there and the relief efforts by digging around on the site.
