A scrap project

A couple weeks ago I helped a friend make a quilt for her first grandchild due in a couple weeks. I kept some of the scraps and made a small quiltlet. I thought it was pretty unremarkable and wouldn't be good for much. Too small and boring to hang on the wall and too square to use as a dresser scarf. Then one day a pillow form fell from the top of my stash closet. AH HA! I'll make her a pillow! I put Minkee on the back. I think it might be nice under mommy's elbow or under baby when they are nursing in her new rocking chair. It seems the new moms are now getting a special half doughnut shaped pillow for nursing (a Boppy

...so maybe this will have a different use. Or it's big enough for a foot rest! Or a throne for a favorite teddy bear. Anyway it's almost finished except for slipstitching the opening closed.

Perfect! It looks like it must be pretty good sized too! I'm sure momma and baby will find just the perfect use for it!

Yeah, maybe too big to put in the back of a chair....but might be ok for a lap or thrown in the corner to match her bedding and quilt.

Really pretty Kathyl. You know what they say about darker colour receding? Well, it took me quite a little while before I saw the friendship stars! I was trying to figure out what pattern the cream 'paisley' was making, when I noticed the stars. That's amazing. Makes it look really different. . In message , KJ writes

That's soooooo pretty, Kathyl. Isn't it something the way the polka dots say 'happy'? Dancing for you, Polly

Thanks Polly! It was my first time sewing on Minkee. No big problems but I do think I could use more practice.

I'm not sure practice with Minkee will help you much. I've sewed with it quite a bit and never reach what we'd think of as a very nice level. Fortunately, nobody cares about a ripple or wobble. Minkee feels so comforting that no one notices the stitching. Polly

How have you made the pillowcases with it Polly? Did you put a band at the top as some of them are done?

The pillowcases I've done with Minkee have been only to comfort tender heads. I've planned them so the selvedge is at the hem or pillowcase opening so there was no bulk, hem or 'double up'. For sure, a band would be nice but my goal was to quickly say 'we care' and soothe. When I'm feeling cranky, I don't want even a crease in a pillowcase to annoy me - fortunately not often and usually with a migraine attack, nothing so serious as chemo tenderness. I guess the plan would be guided by where your Minkee pillow case is going to love somebody. Polly

LOL That's exactly what happened to me! I was very impressed by the intricacy of the pattern made by the cream fabric. The stars appeared at third or fourth glance. It is lovely either way one looks at it.
