ATC quilt cards

Okay, quilters.... we had a nice long thread on them and quite a bit of interest. But did we decide anything? I'm too dingy to host- I always have those pain meds to fall back on as an excuse! LOL I'd like to make, maybe, ten for a centralized swap. I'm envisioning a shadow box frame to display the ATCs I receive. The Hunky Mr. Collins is on standby in his woodworking shop to make the frame to my specifications- size depending on interest shown and number received, of course!

Who else is ready to tackle a fun, quick, new format for our art? The firmed up rules, dates, sizes, etc.? Any volunteers for swap hostess?

Anyone Interested in an ATC Swap a la the recent Simply Quilts episode

I was thinking of setting people up in pairs with the person sending to you being a secret until you receive the ATC in the mail. The trading cards made do not have to be the same technique used on this episode. Only going to run it if there is interest. Let me know, Melissa in NJ

And here's a follow-up post with a bit more info:

I agree...I HATED the cardstock. A member of my guild has done these and they were all fabric. She has finished the edges in any number of ways and none of them were raw either. Really I think the only rules would be the final size had to be approx. 2"x3", all fabric, any style, and the edges have to be finished (not raw)...the pillowcase method of finishing edges would likely be the easiest. You'd only need to make one and would get one in return. Unless you sign up for more. This is a great way to use up leftover blocks...try out new techniques...etc. I'll continue seeing waht the response is. Here's a link of some:

Leslie -

With renovating and moving - I don't dare volunteer to hostess at the moment. I am certainly interested in participating though.

But what I am even more interested in - is your comment re: Hunky Mr. Collins in his woodworking shop, standing by to make you a shadow box.......

In the course of cleaning out, sorting through and minimizing DH's 9 years of storage in the "office" house next door - I have run across ALL of his Scout memorabilia from when he was a small boy - and even more sentimental - his (now deceased) FATHER'S Scout memorabilia! (They were both Eagle Scouts and his father was very involved) All of these pieces were loose in boxes, in several different locations and some getting ruined! When I showed DH the box I had accumulated, he said, 'Yeah, I should probably get rid of all this old stuff!" I was appalled!

I was thinking "Shadow Box to the rescue!!!" Their service pins, patches, awards etc. would be great in a shadow box to go in his new office!

I don't suppose the Hunky Mr. Collins could be commissioned for a fee?

Oh Melissa, bless your heart for offering to host the swap! I guess I got impatient cuz I'm really excited about getting started. Sorry for rushing you.....

Didn't mean to step on your toes.... just excited!

Tina, I have done several shadow boxes myself. I have bought the shadow boxes at Hobby Lobby and other craft places. The next one that I will do will have my deceased father's picture and all his service medals. I just plan what I will put in the shadow box, take approximate measurements, and go from there.

OoooooooooooooooH! I'd definitely love to try this now that I've seen it. I really need something more to try so I can become addicted to this new thing and never want to do anything else like dishes and cooking and floors.....and even going to work!!! *evil grin*
