Before you cut any angles, check out the link below. It helped me a lot. I've made three attic window quilts using this method. But, hey, the little pic you drew is pretty spot on, just add a 1/4 inch seem allowance all round.

I would follow those directions, too. That's how I made mine - pics are in my webshots if you're interested. Don't cut the angles on your panes. Sew the Y-seam then cut off the excess. Then you don't have to worry about getting wonky Y-seams. If you cut the angles first, you'll be sewing on the bias and be more prone to stretching the fabric. But if you must, I heard starching the bias helps keep it flat. HTH!

Instead of the angle, why not make an HST for the corner? That's the way I did mine! That way you only have streight pieces to cut

Martha, just a bit to add to this...Nowadays if I'm sewing angles, I never cut out the fabric until just before I'm going to use it, and never handle it by the bias sides. I find that also helps to minimise stretching. I learned all this from painful experience.

A quick note.......... that is the method I use for mitered borders too. Makes them very simple to do, especially if doing multiple borders. Sew the border sections together, then join as one to the quilt. Match seamlines when folding to draw the diagonal line.

Also, if you take a few minutes to sew a second seam parallel to the first at least 1/2" away, you end up with HST units that you can use in a border or another quilt.
