Viburnum are common in the desert Southwest in suburban areas where water is available. And it does have a fragrance, I believe. It's a gorgeous plant.

did she call the nursery and ask their advice on the new plant she bought from them? could be she left out some import part of the planting. does she have trouble with any other plants? j.

"Taria" wrote... dd is killing one in her new yard. She planted it and it just isn't taking. I've never grown them here or noticed any but it came from the local nursery that only sells what works here. It is/was very pretty. Taria

i agree, Taria, who was the idiot who thot a house of your own is better than living where your mom does most if not all the cleaning, laundry, cooking, gardening, chauffering, buy/wrapping presents for various birthdays/anniversarys/holidays and if she is lucky might, might, get a couple of hours sleep each month or so. sigh.... i do hope she calls soon and sorts out what she is doing wrong. it is much more fun when your plants survive and flourish. j.

"Taria" wrote... I'm not sure she has it in the right place or she has made sure it has been kept watered. I helped her plant most of the stuff she got but she did that one after I left. She needs to call before the thing is a goner. It has been fun to watch her learn to dig and plant. Neither one of my kids enjoy yard work since they were small tykes. I was laughing at her when she was telling me how much work a house of her own is. She has been there about 9 months and is learning a lot! Thanks Jeanne, Taria

excellent!! i've a few things in my garden i'm not sure what they are but then they arent of any great importance so i've not pursued finding out. wish i could get dh to understand when i say something is a weed to pull it out. i'm sure he'd nurture everything in the garden given half a chance and more room to expand. that said, he did come across something he thot looked like the gooseberry we'd bought and it only lasted one summer, then died back to nothing, so we pulled it out completely. turned out there were two seedlings, must of dropped some seeds when we werent looking. if they make it thru winter we'll have those too. yummy. he is also busy trying to save a few small cherry tomatoes that sprouted under the three big ones we ate all summer. hopes of somehow getting those small ones thru the winter to plant out next summer. he might manage a few of them. we only need a few but we're not sure which ones might be the sweet 100's (red) and which the yellow pear shaped. i guess if they make it thru winter we'll see next summer. if they do we've saved some money on buying new plants and the accomplishment of keeping them going. we also have some gathered seeds from various food crops to try and grow for next summer. i hope the passionfruit work. they grow well here but we didnt get enough of them last year so fingers crossed. they're soooooo good. our collection of both red and yellow guava is now giving us enough fruit to make quite a few jars of jelly too...gathering a big bowlful at a time and making in it in batches. gave Sam a jar to take back to his flat when he came by on mothers day and had dinner with us. anyhow, congrats on finding your viburnum. j.

"Sandy" wrote ... Okay, I've done a bit more research, and it appears that I have a viburnum.
