"Autumn" Quilt

Hi Guys, Well, I went through all of my autumn fabrics and have decided on just what I will use to make my planned scrappy autumn fabric Cat quilt. I have 8 different cat fabrics that are also autumn prints AND have the purple that I so dearly love :-). This is the quilt I have talked about making off and for for at least 3 years -- LOLOL! Now that I will have TWO WHOLE MONTHS of uninterrupted time to myself at the cabin, I can actually get some stuff for me finished!! The plan is to have a finished size of about 80" (64 blocks total) square so that I can fold the quilt in half and give my legs enough claw protection coverage when the kitties decide it's time to "snurf" on Mom's lap -- LOL! I'm going to make 10" blocks with 5 strips of 2" wide fabric in each. Then I will put them together so that they go "this way, that way" or =||=|| . I'm sure there is a "given" name for this block but I don't know what it is. I have a LOT of fabrics (collected them over the that 3 year period) so I plan to use most of them. Hopefully, most of the fabrics will be at least 42" wide so that I can get 4 pieces 10.5" long from each 2.5" wide piece that I cut. If my calculations are correct, I will need a total of 320 strips 2.5" x 10.5" -- if I can get 4 10.5" pieces from each strip cut, then I will need to cut two strips of each of 40 fabrics. I have almost FIFTY fabrics to choose from so I weeded out the 10 that I liked the least. VBS -- when I am finished with this quilt, I REALLY hope there is someone who wants some nice autumn print/colour fabrics -- LOL! Actually, when I buy fabric, I buy at least a full year so I am thinking I will cut enough strips to make enough blocks for the front AND the back! There are 2 or 3 cat prints that I have 2 yds. of so I will likely take one or two of those with me to the cabin. That way, if some of the strips are shorter than 10.5" in length, I can cut a cat strip instead and use it. I plan to have at least one cat fabric in each block -- big surprise huh?!?!? I also plan to get the strips cut and then mail them to myself at DD's. I have already sent a HUGE box of fabric, needlework and gifts. I want to get the Egyptian quilt made for DD as her B-day or Christmas gift this year. And YES, I do have some of the Egyptian Cat fabric to use in the quit -- actually 3 coordinating prints! So -- I am totally thrilled that I will actually make a quilt for myself and one that I have had planned for at least 3 years! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
