Baby quilt book?

Hi!

I just found out that a friend is pregnant (yay!) and since I just completed one quilt and know I can do it ;-) I'd like to try a baby quilt! I have 7 months to get it done...

Does anyone have any recommendations for baby quilt books? There are so many out there, I'm not sure what to get... Something fairly easy for sure...but cute is what I'm thinking!

Thanks all...

Steph

The P.S. I love you book(s) are pretty cute. They also include instructions for 'extras' like dust ruffles, crib sheets, etc.

Take a look next time you are at the quilt store.

Quilted baby books or books with baby quilts?

There are loads of easy baby quilt patterns online and available for free download. A search for project Linus quilt patterns should get you several patterns. Many free block patterns are easy to use to make a baby quilt too.

I made an oversized, non-PP version of this for a baby quilt:

Another simple block to make from children's or novelty fabric is to simply border the novelty fabric with a coordinating print like this one of mine. The center is 8 inch square, and it has a 2 inch wide border of the pink TOT print.

Howdy!

You can give a baby a quilt book but you can't make 'em Finish.

I've recommended this one so often I'm starting to feel like a broken record: Warm Wishes, free on the Quiltmaker website, works well with novelty fabrics and is very easy. Pattern is at . I've made this one quite often. Here are some I made:

Not from a specific book.... but a very simple quilt to make with any fabric... Choose focus fabric and 2 fabrics that "go with" the focus fabric, but are different values/colors. (I did this with a Baby Looney Tunes print and a coordinating dark pink and blue marble that matched colors in the print.) Cut squares of your focus fabric that will show the print. You can fussy cut or not.. Cut strips to "frame" or border each square.... set it so that you alternate colors of frames.... (in mine it was a blue then a pink etc, start each row with the opposite color.) Best to have odd numbers of rows/columns then the corners will match (you need one more of one color than the other...example, set 7x7 you would do 24 pink, 25 blue or what ever.) Set together and add borders of your focus fabric. Easy, simple and striking.

We just got Alex Anderson's Baby Quilts with Love, at the library where I work. It has 12 different patterns, some very cute, and rated on level of difficulty. And as a librarian, may I suggest going to your local library, if possible, they often have a nice selection of quilting books you can borrow, to either use for inspiration, or to decide if you need to purchase a certain title.

Heidi- Have to put my Librarian hat on for a moment and remind people Libraries are great places.

My friend Marsha (fairly new quilter) bought "Quilts for Baby - Easy as A-B-C" by Ursula Reikes. She's now made 3 quilts from the book and highly recommends it (I just phoned her for the info). There are 11 different patterns and each of them had made up in several different colorways with photos so you get to see and choose. I just googled it and the cost is under $15.00. As others have said, there are umpteen different free patterns online but if you want a book for your stash and to use as a reference this would probably be a good one. She got it at a shop in Kansas (we live in GA) but we have seen it in the two LQS we frequent here. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

To me most of the pieced baby quilts look just like any other quilt only smaller and with 'baby' colors and fabrics. If it were me I would just choose any easy quilt block that I like and some baby looking fabrics. JM2C
