I don't have a specific pattern but if you have a lot of scraps this is a nice way to use them up

Ciao, Nico May I suggest that you check in the RCTQ archives? This topic of a baby quilt is/has often been discussed, so there should be quite a few pattern recommendations and links to sites for examples. What you do is: Go to Google, click on Groups, then (I think) it is just the group name in 'search' - "rec.crafts.textiles.quilting". . In message , pomodoro writes

Before I did the quilt named "sky dreams" in keepsakequilting, (I don't know if I can add a link), and for another baby, I used teddy bear block in quilterscache.. but this time I haven't yet found what to do... Thanks.. and hugs nico

I have a few pictures of baby quilts I have done in my "children's quilts" folder... in my webshots albums....

Another way to get lots of ideas... go to

formatting link
click on images.... then search for child quilt or boy quilt....

you will get lots and lots of pictures.

Another quick idea is find a nice "boy" print... (focus fabric) -- then fussy cut for attic windows. To avoid Y seams... just use half square triangles in the corners.....

Have fun!

One of my baby quilts, the one that got probably the most enthusiastic response, was a simple Friendship Star. This is basically a 9-patch with 5 plain squares and 4 half-square triangle squares, which make a 4-pointed star. For the center of each block, I used a little printed teddy bear. Half the blocks had one background color and half a contrasting color. The star points were cream. IIRC it was 20 blocks set 4 X 5, and the blocks were

6.5". Plus a narrow inner border and wider outer border. But of course you could make your blocks bigger or use more of them. Roberta in D

Hello Nico,

I made a quilt for my god-daughter's son and I think it turned out OK. Just small blocks and borders - looks good.

The centre of the quilt is made up of 3inch squares in plain purple, green (with dragon fly pattern), and lemon tonal -

7 squares per row and 12 rows down, borders - 2 inch purple border, 3 inch green dragon fly border and then another 1 inch purple border.

It was supposed to be a cot quilt but ended up a little bigger and would be suitable for a small childs bed.

I don't know how to get links to my pics on here - I have them in photobucket but they can't be accessed from the newsgroup.

Good luck, I think you will come up with some beautiful.

It's a fast, easy pattern, you can use dazzling colors and you can also fussy cut the blank blocks (or not). Remember to make it sturdy. Baby quilts get a lot of love. Polly

I have made a bunch of baby quilts and have photos of many of them in my Quilting Album at Webshots. Take a look -- you might see something you like. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Nico, I've made a few, which you can see at . Disregard the first one, since it was a time-consuming piece. However, the others weren't bad. Pick a simple pattern (4-patch? 9-patch? The baby will love it!) and do it all by machine. It should go quickly, since it doesn't have to be large. Best of luck!

Love your baby quilts Cheryl. Nice way to use up scraps. I am looking forward to an "I'm pregnant" announcement, whenever that comes.
