where do you post your pictures?

I'm ready to give up on my yahoo album - so where do you all post albums and don't even think of referring me to a service that's in any way complicated! I just spent 4 hours with tech support yesterday and am done with technical computer stuff for the year (knock on wood!)

All I can do is sympathise, Musicmaker! My DH fixed us up with a web site - BUT I have yet to learn how to 'use' it, to add photos and pass on links. However, that is what I am determined to do this winter >g< (I have told him, so he is prepared!) . In message , Musicmaker writes

I have been using webshots for about 6 months... and they seem to work really well. You'll notice that many others use it here too.

You can also set up your own website - either through geocities (which is a Yahoo affiliate) or maybe through your ISP. But for straight up photos... webshots has been working for me! Easy upload. Easy to rearrange pictures. You just can't rename your webshots home page after you get started... so pick a good name!

I use Webshots. It's easy and pretty reliable. They have a free album package, but I paid for a premium membership 'cos I didn't want to get any problems or prompts/reminders about space or numbers. I figured for about US$0-60 per week it was worth it. (about $30 per year)

Hi Musicmaker,

I have been using Shutterfly.com for quite a few years. It is totally free. You get a few emails with specials deals for printing pictures etc. but I have never purchased prints and still have total use of the site. I have had pictures stored in albums on their site for many years and no question of limited space at all. It has recently changed to have "collections" that can be shared. I have had many long pauses in my use of this site but that has not affected my account either. I can't compare to any other site as this is the only one I have used. I am quite comfortable with computers and ussually don't have trouble with sites, but I do think that this site has good instructions and easy step-by-step routines for doing things.

If you use msn and have a hotmail account you could try Windows live spaces

Its verry simple to use and you can upload, to 500 pictures a month. This is my space:

You can use it as a closed system only seen by friends or open like mine.

Howdy!

Yep, Yahoo for me, too. Haven't had any problems on the pc or via iMac (knocking wooden head against wooden desk). Webshots has captured many hearts and photos from this ng; it has the most ANNOYING ads of any site I've ever visited, that dam' flashing stuff is horrible. My IT buddies warn against using so I only go there to see all the pretty quilts. YMMV Do they have an option for

*not* sharing photos on their big search site?

Good luck!

I don't use either Yahoo or Webshots, but I must say that I agree about Webshots being annoying. And now that they've redone the site, it seems to load about as quickly as molasses runs in January! It's almost enough to stop me looking sometimes. :S Just as a side note, too, my DT in China (but not for much longer!) can't see Webshots sites at all in there -- it's been blocked entirely, apparently. Luckily, she can see them in France, so when she goes home in a few months she'll be able to look if she wants to.

I have one folder uploaded so far, called Quilts, and the baby quilt ought to be there. Thanks for all the responses - I finally did a google search for comparisons of online photo sharing and this one looked the easiest and fastest to learn. Fokti.com

Thanks Musicmaker - it's lovely to see your quilts. That new baby quilt with the appliquéd flowers is gorgeous; and I love the tree border to the jewel box quilt. Really lovely, the whole quilt. . In message , Musicmaker writes

All the quilts are wonderful, but I really do like that baby quilt. The B&W center really lets those flowers show off!

I can sympathise about Yahoo albums, I tried it and it said I had to download something to show the photos, then said something about not being allowed to download that on my computer, gave me a bunch of steps to follow, which I tried and still couldn't download what I was supposed to, plus it messed up a bunch of graphics on yahoo newsgroups and some other sites, took a lot of frigging around to get that fixed. then I went to Webshots and was able to post my photos easily, no problems, I know I wouldn't go near Yahoo again

I loved all your quilts. I wish I had someone nearby who could help me with quilting in exchange for piecing (sigh)

I am pleased you have such a diligent QI helping you keep up the good work. JJ is gorgeous.

Glad to see you have been using webshots for 6 months. I down loaded the software, uploaded a few pictures and everthing seem fine. Then I found some quilt design that I really wanted to download. When I clicked the download button, the system seemed to be in the process of downloading but did not give me an opportunity to specify the location on my computer for those pictures to go. I spent several hours searching never never land inside my computer and still could not find the downloaded pictures.

Instead of download, try save picture as.

Forget download, just save the image.

Customer support even for Premium members is pretty poor, but I haven't found anywhere that is different. I use my albums for storage and quick-and-simple show and tell stuff. Nothing fancy, I am just too lazy to set up a web site for myself.

using the keep-it-simple principle, I have been reasonably happy with what I get from Webshots, but - like many others - I am not overly impressed with the new web site.

Got a call from the secretary of our union that a retired teacher has two antique quilts for adoption that need some restoring and she thought of me. Will be getting them on Friday. Can't wait to find out what they are!
