? When you scrapbook, do you devote an

entire book to a subject, or do you scrapbook in chronological order in one book?

I always thought I "should" scrapbook in chronological order, in one book. Until reading some posts on this group. It never even occured to me to scrap one event in one book (except weddings)....

I have all the materials, even bought some albums, I just can't seem to get over the hump of starting, but that's another question... LOL

I've only gotten one book done and it was on my house construction. I did it in chronological order. Now I'm working on my wedding album and a book from last years stuff. I guess I go chronological. I'm going to do one for each kid I have then one of my school years. Then when I get caught up with the old stuff, I am going to try to do one a year. Like for year of 2004. Then have christmas birthday's holidays, etc.

Let me see,

I started with a travel album. To me that was the easy place to start. The only problem? I did it in a strap hinged CM album and had to take it all apart when I suddenly remembered a trip I had missed.

I then did an ongoing album fo the teddy bears I had made. I really should do another one of all the artist bears that I've collected.

I've done an ongoing album for my best friend in Canada of the places we've travelled to together.

I've done a 50 page chronological one for my son who is now 26. He spent 2 hours showing it to his gf and it was one of the few things that he evacuated with him during the FL hurricane season.

I've done two 40+ page wedding albums, one for my BIL and one for my MIL.

I've done a dog album for a gf. She has no children but loves her "girls", two schnawzers.

I did an album for the Dean of the Law school in St Pete as a keepsake of all the congratulations etc that she got when she got the position.

And this year I scrapped whatever came to mind and I then put it into an album. The intent is to put the pages in different albums where they belong...eventually, LOL!

So basically, I scrap as gifts and for myself, I scrap whatever I feel like doing in whatever order I happen to think about it!

I tend to scrap chronologically. I would like to get to the point where I can scrap whatever hits me, then put it into albums in chronological order. Of course, I have yet to complete an album! LOL I have one album for my beloved cat, one album for DS, and one for DD. I've started another album for my parents. I would like to be able to put a year of family stuff in one album. I have great plans, just can't get them done!

I have a book started for each of my kids (2 kids, and they each have their own book so far). I also just started a family album.

In the kid's album I have done just some pictures that I liked and that I felt inspired to do. I have their first Christmas page...yet I will have all the other Christmas's pages in the family album. I'll do birthdays in each of their separate albums. I'll do one page for each boy of our vacations, yet do more in the family album.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm just having fun. The family album will be more of what we do/did as a family...and the kids will be about them (like how my oldest used to show people his feet whenever he met someone..so I have a page of that...just stuff that will be great to remember), and part of what we did as a family.

I hope that makes some sense.

I am trying to make a book for each of my own children, as well as one for each of my foster kids. Plus I have a book for myself with absolutely no theme whatsoever. The books for my foster kids are also done in similar colours. *Country* red/blue/yellow/green and white. For my kids, the page colours depend on the pictures I took.

There's no way I could scrap chronologically. I jump all over the place, working on whichever pics I'm in the mood for. I use post bound albums so I can move the pages around easily. I have everything chronological in them though.

I have a vacation album w/ lo's of several different trips. I have a holidays album w/ several years of a variety of diff holidays and birthdays. I'm starting an album for my flower garden pics. A lot of shots over several years.

Hope this helps and get yourself scrapping!

I started out doing an album for some friends of a vacation we took together. After I finished theirs, I did a larger one for us.

Since then, I have just gone through all my pictures and scrapped them as they inspired me. There are some photos that I have scrapped right after taking them (vacations, Christmas or visits with friends). I also did an album for my parents with their wedding pictures, but most of my scrapping is random. I think I would get bored and frustrated if I tried to do all my pictures in order. :-)

Ok Shannon, I have to know. Why did your son show people his feet?

He is extremely shy. I think it was his way of interacting with people. He started this at about 2. He was a slow talker...but honestly? It was just something he did. I scrapped pictures of this just because I know I will forget about it and that was something his wife will love to hear about one day...lol.

I think it started though when he got new shoes and was old enough to understand he got new shoes so he just showed people his shoes...then he would hold up his feet with just socks on. It is so funny, when people came to the house, like my mom or my mother in law, as soon as they walked in, he would lift up his foot and they all had to say "What nice feet you have Alex".

Also when he is relaxing he will put his hands behind his head...which is also the same thing he will do if you ask to see his muscles...so I scrapped that too. The real funny thing is that when I was pregnant with him, he always had his hands up by his head..and now that he is 3 he has always done this...always.

He does some cute things that I never want to forget.

How fun. I have a friend who wrote down all the funny things her kids said when they were little. I imagine they will really like those books when they are older.

I've currently got going...

2 baby albums birth to 1 year. 1 family album 1 recipe album 1 cake decorating album of cakes I've decorated with other baked goods thrown in like gingerbread houses. I've made 3 ABC baby albums for gifts. I bought all the stuff, collected all the photos, to make 2 "school pictures" photo albums. One for me and one for my mom.

Of the people I've scrapped booked with, it seems there are 2 basic types - Book people, and Layout people.

I tend to be a book person - I try to think of the book as a whole, and how it will go together. Especially for the books I've given for gifts. Although, there is always the problem of going back and fitting things in if you decide to change the order, or forgot something. :)

(I've had to *very carefully* remove an entire layout and re-attatch it for my friends baby album!)

For my own books, I started with misc layouts that now I have to figure how to fit into something - but mostly I have ideas for theme books I want to do. One plan I have to "compromise" the 'book' style is to try to think of making "books within books" - i e, realize that not everything can be linked, or themed in an entire book - but I can group like things....

My neighbor is a "layout" person - she makes great layouts and puts them in the book according to her mood at the time, and then has been known to re-order often, depending on her mood at that crop. :)

That's a great description. I never thought of book people and layout people. It makes perfect sense. I might just have to lift that and put it somewhere on the website! Maybe the Scrapbooking 101 section. I think it would help beginners to understand the different impulses that guide us!

I agree. The first book I ever made, I scrapped all of my Christmas pictures into a family memory book. It spanned about

20 years. My next book was just a collection of pictures using new ways and techniques. I then made several small gift albums with definite themes. I have books that are vacations, books of grandkids showing off various skills, and I am working on individual albums for each of my children. Since my pictures span such a long era, I tend to scrap by inspiration rather than chronological. Now, my daughter is very organized and her books are not only beautiful, they are in order! I think my style drives her a little batty LOL I think each person's individual style is what is so unique and personal about scrapbooking.

Jessica, I guess I'm a lo person. I just get 'em done and stick them in their appropriate album and when the mood strikes I move them around into chrono order. As for "books in books", I guess that's what my vacation album is. I have title pages for each trip, so as to seperate them into sections.
