Hmm, How about the sailboat block? (See it along with other traditional blocks at

It uses half square triangles (I LOVE HST's, and you can find tons of instructions for making them on the web - or use my absolute favorite HST method - THANGLES)

Here is an example of a quilt using the sailboat block

For the one I made, I didn't have a pattern. I made 12 inch blocks. I used a white print as the background, and blue 1930's reproduction fabrics for the boats. I sashed in-between each block and row, and bordered and backed with one of the prints.

Books abound, and one of my favorites is the 2nd in the "P.S. I Love You" series. You might get some ideas by browsing for pictures

Cheryl, we've been getting some Project Linus quilts finished with rick rack like you did yours - I really like them! I love the way you've used the colors in your 'strippy' quilt.

It's not mine... lots of people use it....

here is the text:

It's Your Quilt by Nancy Riddell

It's OK if you sit on your quilt. It's OK if your bottle gets spilt. If you swallow some air and you burp, don't despair; It's OK if you spit on your quilt.

There are scraps old and new on your quilt. Put together for you on your quilt. If your gums feel numb 'Cause your teeth haven't come, It's OK if you chew on your quilt.

We expect you to lie on your quilt. If you hurt, you may cry on your quilt. On a cold rainy night, Don't you fret; you're all right. You'll be snug, warm and dry on your quilt.

I've just finished two. The one that went together fastest was nine

12-inch pinwheels in medium and light values of each color group that I had stash for. Warm Wishes took longer, but was lovely, if I do say so myself!

Wow!! I have read all your advice. And i saw all your photos.. I find so sweet and beautiful all of those works.. and in some case I think I'm not able to do some of them.. but. anyway.. I decided this: simple blocks.. for example a 4 patch, or 9 patch, or square in a square (something like economy patch pattern) or rail fence... Maybe, here and there, I'd like to put a plain block with a teddy bear in appliqu=E8..

But.. i don't like hand appliqu=E8.. so I think to use fusible paper... but I don't know if it works well for baby quilt.. I mean.. a baby quilt will be washed often, isnt' it? maybe the appliqu=E8 after so many washes goes away?? It's better to use hand appliqu=E8? thanks again...=20 i'll do photo, promised!! hugs nico

Nico,

I think if you use fusible for a baby quilt, you need to secure the edges= =2E

You could use satin stitch - if you tie of the ends, I can't see that=20 wearing out any time soon.

You could also be a little cheeky: find a fabric with teddy bears in the =

right size and isolated (the background shows between them), then makes=20 your "plain" blocks from this fabric. You can cut them just right then - =

don't worry about fabric grain, just be a little careful.
