Baby quilts with filled binding

With all the help you all gave me I was able to complete all of my charity baby quilts. Hopefully, the quality got better as I learned more with each quilt.

Julia in MN was absolutely right about how to get the binding to work when it is offset from the edge of the quilt sandwich. Polly Ester also made some good suggestions.

I really learned a lot doing these four small quilts. 1. Cheap flannel does not keep its bright colors when washed. 2. Flannel sure makes a mess inside your sewing machine. 3. Satin sure is slippery and frays to no end 4. The regular presser foot works better than the walking foot on satin 5. Free motion quilting is lots of fun 6. No quilt is "perfect" (I'm really embarrassed about some of the flaws) 7. My "experienced quilter" wife thinks they look great and says the children that get the quilts will not notice the beginner mistakes.

I'm now trying to decide what to do for my next quilt project.

Thanks again for all of the help.

Those are so cute, Jerry! I can't imagine any child not loving them. Your DW is right. Somehow I've missed the instructions about your binding -- drat!

Jerry, you are hereby awarded 500 points for staying with an impossible project and seeing it through. Good for you. Also, by the authority vested in me, I hereby award your wife 500 points and a star in her crown for not taking you down a long lonely road and leaving you there in hopes that you couldn't find your way home. Would you please, for goodness sake, find something less challenging for your next project? We aren't easily frightened but you're just a sight, you know that? Could I recommend Warm Wishes by Quiltmaker? You would enjoy the making of it and we could put aside our portable oxygen for a while. Polly

Jerry in North Alabama,

WOW! I am jealous...I wish my husband would show an interest in quilting. Well, then again...I don't know if I would want the competition. lol He could design beautiful things if he wanted to. Anyway, I've enjoyed looking at your donated quilts and hope you continue on this wonderful venture.

They look great from over here! Well done! And some things you can only learn by doing -although most of us would have given up after one or 2! Roberta in D

I am impressed with the quilts as well. I recently purchased a kit for a baby quilt at JoAnn with a coupon. The satin and fuzzy material in the kit drove me completely bonkers. I'll never use any of it again.

Hey, I also went and looked at the photo album. Baby quilts are cute as can be. Went to the other album and was totally absolutely impressed. I would never attempt a few of those quilts. Do you like the technical aspect of the quilting - the precise fitting, etc.? Wow!

Looking forward to more photos and projects from you.

Thanks for all of the encouraging words.

Most of the flannel in my projects was cheap and it fuzzed, faded, streatched, and drove me bonkers" When I added satin binding attached two inches away from the edge of the quilt sandwich, I really went bonkers."

I have picked challenging projects to start learning about this hobby but I guess that's what I enjoy. I have EQ6 and love playing with designs and I really love buying fabric.
