Basting the 'Sandwich'

I have a large table for basting, but still not big enough for some of the quilts I have made, so I baste part of it, move it, reposition my sandwich, and baste another section. Repeat until done. You do have to be careful to get everything positioned right, but it can be done, and you don't have such a long reach to the middle of the quilt.

Mary, I have tried handquilting without a hoop because I really hate having to stitch a little bit and then take the quilt out and reposition it, quilt a little more, then reposition. I have tried bigger hoops, oval hoops, square hoops, and I hate them all. I really like using no hoop at all because I can quilt much faster and my stitches look so much better, but when I do that, I get puckers on the back. How do you keep from getting puckers on the back when you don't use a hoop?

Thanks for any advice you can give.
