Batiks Plus, and a question

Lovely, lovely, lovely! It's been a long dry spell, but I am ironing a bunch of new batiks I just bought from Batiks Plus. They got here so fast! But all my yards are 38 inches. When did they start that? Their web site still proclaims to be the home of the 40 inch yard. Now, they did throw in some free fat quarters, and mind you I am not kicking free batik fat quarters. Not at all. I am still delighted with this place, and will continue to do business. I just didn't know they had changed. Someone should tell the web site techie guy person so the change will be known. That's all for me! Back to my happy ironing now! : )

A 38" yard is still better than what I get at my local quilt shop -- where I"m lucky to get 36" on grain!

Now I have to go check out a new online shop!!

Have you ever noticed how the width of the fabric has been shrinking over the years. When I was a young girl, fabric was 36 inches wide, then it jumped to 45. Slowly but surely it is going back to 36 inches. I haven't found any true 45 inch fabric in years. Its been

44/45, then 43/44 and now I am finding a lot of 42 inch.

I bought a fabric calculator about a year ago and carry it with me every time I buy fabric. It figures yardage on "40" inch wide fabric. 60 inch wide fabric is becoming hard to find also. Most is now 56/58 inches wide. Real bummer.

When buying FQ, are you really getting a true FQ???????

Karen,

That is great news, I have been wanting to order from them but didn't know if it was a good site to order from.

The quilt shops around here are also very scant on their yard cuts. After squaring up the fabric you are lucky to have 34". Now Shipshewana, IN and Tecumseh, MI are much better, there is a wee bit to square up with. The little shops south of me are horrible. I would go there more but their cutting is so bad I never actually get a yard of fabric. They have great fabric and are really nice people so it is a real shame.

Width on fabric is a whole 'nother factor. I have bought a few batiks that were really skinny, very surprised but since I am a Baticaholic I will not make it an issue.....yet. :-)

Well, I guess I had better check out the Batiks Plus site.........there must be some Batiks I don't have.

Tell me about it!! Karen emailed me about what I might possible want from the site so that we could share the shipping!! Now I'm 60.00 poorer, and that doesn't count the shipping!!!

Haven't noticed - don't measure. Seems like a workable approach to me . (: Musicmaker

I went to a quilt show last week in NJ (only had a couple of hours). I found these LUSCIOUS hand dyes.

There is a website, but it doesn't do the fabrics justice.

Kate,

The shrinking fabric width was a big problem for me this past winter. I had gotten some flannel to sew some pj's for my grand-daughters and ended up having only enough fabric for the pants. I had plenty of scraps left over for future scrap quilts but I was fairly upset at the time that due to the fabric width I could only make the pants. (I ended up getting some matching tshirts for tops and the girls love their jammies BUT that was not my plan.) My pattern layout called for 42 inch fabric and the fabric claimed to be 44/45 but the printing on the selvage took up at least half an inch and then of course I pre-washed and it shrank another inch.

I've been carrying my own tape measure ever since!

Okay. I'll take the blame. But I have my price. Send me the free fat quarters from these extra orders I unintentionally created, and you can tell your husbands I held you at gunpoint if you want!

Very good comeback on the beg, Connie. I'd say you are no rookie begger, but Ragmop must have the final decision on that!

I am getting acupuncture treatments and nutrition advice, plus far infrared sauna treatments. My body is responding like a dream. I am taking 1/4 of one medication already, and 3/4 of another, don't need coffee anymore, don't ever need a glass of wine to relax and sleep at night, not ever. I've only been going about a month! This is really wonderful!

The first thing he insists upon is that a person should not be having any coffee, alcohol, chocolate, or soda. These things interfere with your body's electrical system and mess up a number of things inside you. The toughest for me was coffee, I drink it every day and need it. He said it's fine to take it slow, he's very understanding and very gentle in his ways. We're getting along great, and honestly, I don't even want the coffee now, or need it, because of all the changes he's getting with the treatments. I don't miss it at all! In a couple week I will find out specifically how I should be supplementing my diet based on a hair analysis. He also supplements based on organ weaknesses that he has tested me for. It's all quite amazing and wonderful!

I will be supplementing my lack with food, and with pills containing vitamins and minerals, as well as with formulas containing Chinese herbs and formulas that tell the organs to work properly. After awhile I will be able to get off all the formulas also, just as I have been getting off the prescription. The acupuncture retrains the electrical system to fire in a balanced way again, the way it was intended to do, and it will tell the organs on it's own. Fascinating stuff.
