batting right and wrong side?

A quilting friend who mostly hand quilts told me today that experts (she thinks it was Fons and Porter) say batting has a smoother and a rougher side, and they recommend putting the smoother side up because it is easier to needle that way. Has anybody tried this? Or even heard of it? Roberta in D, mostly a machine quilter, but wondering if it could affect tension/ stitch quality

Howdy!

I'm looking at the Hobbs Heirloom 80/20, and there's no notable difference between one side or the other. As others say, if we're hand quilting, we have to bring that needle thru' both sides of the batting, and I can't tell any difference in drag & slippery-ness due to the way I lay the batting. F&P, like other "experts", have these ideas... . TMMV

This reminds me of the Hobbs agent who came to guild meeting a few years ago, & kept quoting Harriet H & what *she* says about the 80/20 & how she recommends it & how HH puts her stamp of approval on it for machine quilting, and a bunch of us handquilters sitting at the tables looked at each other and said, "So?"

Different batts, different finishes; I'll let the experts do the tests.

Cheers!

Yes, "thy" works, too, altho' I was thinking "their", & thinking of "experts" as "Those People". ;-D

Meanwhile, I've just pulled out the batting and sliced another piece off that roll, sandwiching a large Christmas wallhanging (I know she'll put it on the wall, that's the way she is). Now for a larger version w/ the same panel:

Sandy E... I love these fabrics! I'll have some of each, please and thank you.

Toronto stores aren't selling these..there is some issue with the MODA rep here.... but I will look for them online.

I bet that great quilt store in Vancouver will have them.

Just gorgeous and so fun!!
