Hi Jeanne,

Thanks for your kind words about my EQ pix. Now if I was only so prolific in real life....

Pat in the UK suggested a diamond border as well. I'm going to experiment.

Best regards, Michelle > that wasnt what i meant.

FWIW I read rctq using the newsreader function of thunderbird (which is also my email program). My newsgroups are all in one section and my email is in a separate section.

I like it better than google because I find the topic threads are organized more clearly. New posts are highlighted and inserted into the thread at the correct point. So if I need to go back and see the OP it's easy.

If your service provider has a newsreader you can configure thunderbird to use that. Otherwise you may need to sign up for a standalone newsgroup service.

What's a stand alone newsgroup provider - these things used to be easy! I have verizon and I'm afraid to try Thunderbird for newsgroups. I am confused enough by trying to sync mail between my desktop and my laptop. Right now it's working and I don't know about verizon and newsgroups!

You can ask verizon if they have a newsreader service. Do you use thunderbird for email already? If so you can configure a newsreader in the same way you configure an email account.

I think there are various newsreader services - right now I'm using newshosting.com simply because that's the one that was recommended when my email provider dropped newsgroups. I think there are free ones available but I don't know what they are.

I know what you mean about syncing - the way I get around it is to only read rctq on one computer. I would love a better solution.

formatting link
annoying but the ? on the end of that link should be there underlined but isnt. no idea why not. you'll need to copy/paste or click the link and add the ? to the end.

check this link and links on that page to see if it helps you on verizons newsgroup service. according to that page the service started on 30th june 2008. they will only carry the 'big 8 comp.* humanities.* misc.* news.* rec.* sci.* soc.* talk.*

RCTQ is in rec. so you should be ok with that, assuming they're still the same as last june. j.
