Thank you butterfly, I downloaded several of these but I also ordered a pattern. I hope by next week I get to start cutting. I had planned on it this week, as soon as I got the Christmas stuff put up, but then we got a call from a coal mining company's insurance that they need to come out and take pictures of both the inside and outside of our house. So now in the mist of putting up decorations, I am trying to clean the house up too. Don't want it to look like it has been robbed in the pictures. LOL So my goal is to start either Saturday or Monday. I have been going through my many patterns I have already collected and fingering my stash in hopes of finding just the right thing to start with. I have some beautiful fabric and need to get to using it. I think I should be able to quilt at least 2 years on my stash. I have even ordered some fat quarters for squishes if I ever get to be able to participate in that. I don't think that I will make the cut this week, because I am still feeling pretty bad from the pneumonia. I am also trying to figure out why I need a template when I have a zillion rulers it seems. Probably don't have the one I will need though.

You all just do not know how much you me to me, I think this is the greatest group on line.

Thanks for being here for me,

Jacqueline in KY who has spent too much money today and has not left the comfort of her home.

hi Jacqueline, i probly wasnt paying attention or missed what design you think you need templates for. which one? most things can be pieced using only your rulers. if its tricky could need a simple protractor (sp?)...like for a dresden plate or grandmothers fan or or or... maybe do it by PP or EPP method. all things are possible. i'd bet someone on here can figure out how to make whatever it is without buying anything. i use empty cereal boxes for templates to do applique. cheers, jeanne

Jeanne,

The pattern I got from my luncheon swap and she said she chose it because it was an easy pattern and is considered Great for Beginning Quilter's, the name is Bento Box and is by Tracey Brookshier. I was also sent the fat quarters that it requires, to do a lap size quilt and already matched, can't get better than that. Here is the pattern for that one, with a kit, but I got a pre-made kit that she made herself for me. I love the colors and think it will be prettier than this one.

I am debating on starting with either this pattern, a Sudoku quilt pattern, which I also have the fabric for, but can't find the link to where I purchased it, or a Noah's Ark Kit with Panel, which I just love. Can be found here

I have all thefabric for it too. Actually I love them all but these are the onesthat seem to be the easiest for me to start with. Which ever I dofirst I will do the other two next, more than likely, unless I decideto venture into something a little tougher but I can't see thathappening quite so soon. Have you all noticed I have quit talkingabout those squares that I bought on ebay when I first decided Iwanted to learn to quilt. LOL I have decided that if it kills me I amgoing to learn to do this and do it right. The Sudoku quilt is going to be a little bit of a challenge because I am going to have to be really careful and get all my colors in the right places, at times I have a hard time concentrating, but I know I can do it. I'll have to be careful with the Bento box quilt also, for the same reason but it is going to be easier I think.

I'm making a Bento Box quilt too! It is easy and goes together pretty quickly, always a plus for my short attention span. Good luck with yours!

I made several of the "Christmas Star Tree Skirt from Quilter's World" a couple years ago, and they turned out absolutely wonderful. I even saved up different purple-y Christmas fabric for three years to have enough different kinds (hard to find purple Christmas fabrics at that time) to make a skirt for a friend who is a purple fanatic. She was blown away with how neat it turned out. I recommend this one to anyone, and it isn't especially difficult.

i've always loved that bento box design. for me, i'm not too keen on the Noahs Ark...no kids around here now. that said, you should go for the one that calls to you the loudest, lol.

when you do get round to doing the Bento Box be sure you press your seams opposite ways so they will nestle nicely when joining and.... to get those joins nice and clean, sew so the upper seam is laying away from you as it goes under the presser foot. might need to use a wee stiletto/bamboo skewer to help this go smoothly. this is cuz the feed dogs below will pull that lower fabric into the seam. if done the other way(the upper fabric seam laying towards you, which seems the logical way but isnt), the feed dogs will pull the seams apart, uh oh. if this makes no sense, holler and i shall try to splain it better. i need breakfast here first, protein to raise the blood sugar levels. :) cheers, jeanne

Jeanne, I don't understand the directions you just gave but remember I have never made a quilt before. With that said, I have no kids around either but can always find a home for something such as that. Some day I hope to be a great aunt, so I could make it now and save it. I just think that the Noah's Ark may be what I need to get me going since I just have to cut a few strips, sew them together and be ready to sandwich and quilt. This way I could finally say I have a project done or at least a WIP. Right now I just have a bunch of fabric that is crying out to me to be used. I think the Noah's Ark might give me the courage to try more. I have pretty much talked myself into it and then into the Bento Box. Who knows I may get going and get them both done this year, hey it is only January 2.

i do understand, J. so go for Noahs Ark then, girl. time's a'wast'n, lol. get that machine threaded up. today is a great day to start. so what if any help is needed to start today? heck, i love seeing someone get that first one up and going. once you start you'll get enthused and be roll'n right along. just gotta ask here for one bit of help at a time, if needed of course. tho you've probly already got that first question answered. i'll go for "break a leg" i think, rather than good luck, lol. cheers, jeanne

Just get on yahoo messenger with Jeanne. She'll MAKE you do it. She'll sit there and wait for you to tell her you're done with the first step. No lying either, because she'll want pictures. Has worked for me many a time!
