Thank You (long)

I'd like to thank everyone who helped the many homeless animals who receive blankies for my "Critter Comforts" project. All the fabric, thread, batting and UPCs that so many wonderful people helped with make such a difference. It was a hard year here in Michigan, with all the plant closings, one of which is just 5 miles from my home, and all the uncertainty in the job market made for a big drop in adoptions and a spike in owner surrenders. The good news is that things have started to look up. Adoptions have begun to rebound and the hope is for a year filled with many wonderful forever homes for these special animals. The support I receive from the the wonderful people on this message board can't be expressed in words. It warms my heart to know that there are so many kind and caring people in the world. Even though the number of "blankies" I delivered last year was down by about 100, 1400 animals are sleeping a little bit better tonight with their new families and their Critter Comforts quilts. And I couldn't have done it without you and all your donations of supplies. As everyone tries to get organized in this new year, remember that these homeless dogs and cats will love to lay on any of your fabric or scraps no matter how "ugly" we humans think they are. I need to get back to my sewing machine as 6 rescues have said they need more "blankies" this month, which is music to my ears. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year and Thanks again!!!!!1 Jill

Jill..... I think the work you do is an incredible act of kindness, and I will happily give fabric / thread whenever I can. Can't believe you made 1400 quilts last year!! Now THAT'S quilting at warp speed. Many blessings to you and yours in 2007, and please let us know, from time to time, if there is anything in particular you're needing.

Patti, Thanks for asking. I'm thankful for any and all help I receive. It does seem that boy fabric is harder to come by lately, although all the fabric I receive is so helpful. Each and every box is like Christmas morning, opening a surprise never knowing what's inside. Thanks again, Jill

I agree. How about a monthly reminder for bar codes and other needs? (I'm so forgetful, I could use a daily reminder...but that might drive others bonkers.)

Hey Jill!! If you can use some fairly non-descript cottons, I will be happy to ship you some.......have stuff I know I will never use......would be happy for you to have some yard or 2 yard pieces........might make a whole cloth quilt easy.........let me know and I will ship you some freebies!!

I use just about every type of fabric as long as it is washable including cottons, knits, polyester, fleece, flannel, denim and etc. As well as any size from scraps on up. Batting of any size or type and of course thread. The one unusual thing are UPCs (barcodes) off packages of Hobbs batting. They have a batting program for people who sew for charity. They offer full bolts by the pound but you have to include 5 UPCs for each roll ordered. I go through about one roll each month, so the UPCs go fast. Thanks for all of you that look out for me when someone is looking for me or looking to give stuff away. I know new people join the board all the time, but I'd hate to be a pest. Any other questions, please let me know.

I don't think you're being a pest at all!! I think it's a great idea for you to post once a month or so, because, as you say, there are people jumping on the NG all the time who may not know about the wonderful thing you do. And I could use a reminder or two myself, as I quite often have fabric given to me, or whatever, and will never use it. I just LOVE the thought of a little fur baby having his or her own quilt!

If you get Hobbs by the yard there are several bar codes on a yard of the plastic sheet with the pre-washing and other info.

Pati, > Jill, you do need to pop in and repeat the bar code or proof of purchase or

Please email me your snail mail addy. I have at least 2 UPC's downstairs, possibly 3 or 4 I would be happy to send you.

You are doing a wonderful thing, if only everyone could be as generous as you it would be a much more wonderful place!

Tammy, if Jil doesn't drop back by and see your message (she's one busy quilter), you can probably find her email address over at the site she signs with -

Unforunately, the full bolts Hobbs sends me doesn't have any instructions with it so I don't get UPCs that way, so I need ones from seperate bags. I'm just very thankful for the charity program, it would be very difficult to provide such a large number of "blankies" without.

HI Pat, I would imagine that they would except them as well as the package ones. All the order form states is you must send in Hobbs UPCs for each order. Thanks for asking!!!!
