I recently finished a baby quilt for a niece or nephew due in March. I found the pattern in a magazine, but I'm not really happy with the fabrics I chose. I ended up outline quilting each horse to try to make it stand out. Before that, the design looked like sailboats from a distance!!

And, at a qult show last year I purchased the L'il Twister template. As an experiment, I tried it out on a package of charm squares I'd won somewhere. It looks OK, but I learned that I should have put contrasting colors next to each other....I think that way the pinwheel shapes will show up more.

I also just finished a scrappy quilt which hangs over our fireplace...not above it, over the actual opening and glass doors. We get such a draft, I was trying to block it. Of course, it's a little hard to tell if it's working when it's almost 70 degrees! But, I'm not complaining!

The first two can be seen on page 10 in my Webshots. I haven't taken a photo of the fireplace cover yet.

Alice, I like them both! It's so hard for me to do a baby quilt when you don't know the new one's gender. Just finished one myself for a friend. Found out after the fact it's going to be a girl and I'm hoping the red border and little bit of blue sashing don't overwhelm the green and yellow in the body of the quilt. Oh well, it's made with love and that's all that really counts, eh? I tell the mom's to let the babies pee, poo, slober, etc. all over it and throw it in the wash. That's what it's there for - to be loved.

Know what you mean about 70 degree weather. After a week of above freezing temps (even most overnights) we're finally seeing something other than snow here! Patches of grass - mainly under the trees. I don't dread walking through the ice covered driveway. Still huge piles of snow everywhere but there are signs of normalcy. Don't think I'm going to hold my breath until April/May though!

I've done that, Alice. I made a quilt that was supposed to be a sweet floppy-eared bunny rabbit sleeping on the moon. Well. That was the plan. The bunny looks like she's sleeping on a banana. Unfortunately, the quilt is much-loved and baby takes it with her everywhere. Apparently, she Likes bunny sleeping on banana. Polly

Alice, I love both quilts. I think that baby quilt is just adorable and the baby is going to love it.

Polly, is there some reason why a bunny wouldn't sleep on a banana? Seems to me it would be closer, more fragrant and probably softer than the moon. ;)

Sunny no quilts to show off in a while now ... gotta get going

Bunnies and bananas...sounds OK to me! Maybe more realistic than bunnies and the moon!!

I agree! I've also thought of making a larger template. I know they sell them, but why not just extend the lines from the smaller template onto a larger piece of plexiglass? Think it would work?

Great Idea! I'll have to think about how large to go, and how large the fabric squares will have to be.
