Connecting Threads fabric

Has anyone washed Connecting Threads fabric? I have a friend who says that it has some kind of waxy finish on it and when you wash it, it will fray and ravel and feel awful. She has never used CT fabric, but she said she had some that felt like it does. I have quite a bit of it, but it hasn't been washed. Now I'm ascared to use it.

Well, Cindy, wouldn't you think that if that were true that CT would have been out of business in their first month? I've bought fabric from them that was quite lovely. The fabrics in their most recent catalog seemed rather dreary. We'd guess that my heart was looking for gentle spring fabrics and all I saw was 'dragged behind a covered wagon across the prairie' sort of feeling. Your only solution is to wash at least some of what you have from them and see what happens. I'm betting it will be just fine but you do need to know. Polly

Polly,

We'd guess that my heart was looking for gentle spring fabrics and all I saw was 'dragged behind a covered wagon across the prairie' sort of feeling.

I love this phrase, and it conveys my feelings exactly lately! Thanks for having such a way with words,

Yes, that was a bit better than "Ewwwwwwww. Yuck." wasn't it? Thank you, Judie, I appreciate your sweet words. Polly

She does have a "way", doesn't she? That same phrase almost caused a coffee mess on my computer screen. They pop out of her so unexpectedly. Well, maybe that's my fault by now.....I should expect it when I read a Polly post.

I'm with Sandy! Bought some of the 'new' CT fabric. Gave most of it to a friend. I like bright, true colors, not faded like it had been in the sun too long reds! I did keep one piece of the blue, but not at all impressed with the red.

I thought it felt wonderful. I was just hesitant to recommend it if I hadn't washed it.

I told someone that it was just ... odd looking. Like it had been screenprinted (badly). I don't think I will order any more of it.

I've bought from them many times, and they do not have the waxy finish (feel) to them. They just need to be washed. I agree with Polly that the latest catalog was dull (not her words, she is much better). They were not inspiring to me, but when I took the catalog to quilt guild, several of them ordered some of that stuff. I'm not really into blues, and there did seem to be a lot of drab blues in the catalog. I hope the next catalog is more "springy."

Isn't the Connecting Threads own brand of fabric relatively recent(within the past year or two)? Did they carry other brands before that? I don't remember ever ordering fabric from them, so couldn't say for sure, but for some reason, that is what I am thinking. If that is true, fabric you bought several years ago from them could be quite different from what they sell now.

I do like their Essential Thread. It's not as nice as Aurifil, but still quite nice and the price is very reasonable.

Yes, you're right on both counts. They used to carry other brands and just recently (last year or so) started carrying their own brand exclusively.
