Did the April Daffodil BOM

I decided to do both of the appliqué blocks this month. I modified the Daffodil Wreath a bit, though, where the leaves and stems meet in the center. I'm perfectly happy with the way I did it and it was easier. I also have my little tiny dots placed a bit farther out but didn't realize it till I looked at the picture again. (There was no placement template with this pattern.) My little tiny dots are just fine where the are! :)

Thanks, KJ and Sandy. If nothing else, doing the BOM this year has taught me how to appliqué!

All your blocks are just gorgeous Carole - you'd think you'd been doing applique for years.

It's been such fun to watch you grow. You just keep getting better and better. How small are your tiny dots? Smaller than a dime? What did you use for a template? Jealous appliquérs need to know. Polly

Thanks, Monique, Sharon, and Polly - I have definitely gotten a lot of appliqué practice.

Polly, those circles have a diameter of 1/2", so they're definitely smaller than a dime. I used the paper template from the Daffodil Wreath pattern to cut templates from the lightweight appliqué foundation recommended by Sharon Schamber. It stays inside the circle and when washed, the stiffness washes out, just leaving fine threads underneath the appliqué. I used it for everything on that piece except for the straight stems. I watched the Blue Bird applique video from the Free Stuff section on

followed those techniques. That has worked better for me thananything else I've tried. It's still needleturn, but you have Elmer'sWashable School Glue holding the edges of the foundation to thefabric, and then you have dots of Elmer's White School Glue holdingthe piece to the background, so nothing slips and you have a firm edgeto turn the fabric against. I combined that with Suzanne Marshall's"Take-Away" appliqué which helps you cut the pieces so that the grainlines of the small pieces match the grainlines of the backgroundfabric, and also eliminates having to make any markings on thebackground fabric.

Can you tell I've been studying a lot about appliqué methods? :)

Both stunningly beautiful! I was planning to do the daffodils, but not sure any more -the other one looks so pretty! I'm in the middle of the pieced block ATM, about to trim all the HST squares to exactly one inch :-p. Roberta in D
