Here's a link. Scroll down a bit to Ricki Timm's "Grande Finale". I hear it's very good-can't wait to get it myself. I have ordered from this website, had good service, and this weekend they have $1.99 shipping.

Has anyone introducted you to qnn? Some did here on the ng and now I'm addicted. You might want to check them out and subscribe to their newsletter. They have quite a line up of shows.

When you say "machine quilting"... do you truly mean the quilting process (joining the 3 layers through stitching) ... or do you mean "machine quilting" to mean...piecing the top.... as well as joining the layers....

The word quilting can be used to mean a couple of different things... I consider myself a "quilt maker" and doing "quilting" ...even when I send my top out to a longarm quilter.

What (specifically if you can) do you want to learn?

It is a great video!

For applique the Piece o'cake ladies have a DVD out and for Hawaiian applique Nancy Lee Chong has a nice one (except that it was transferred from a video so no scene selection)

Luxien Newman (the thimble lady) has a hand quilting one and I think she's coming out with a hand applique one but I haven't watched it so I don't know how good it is.

Gabrielle Swain has an applique DVD and one on embellishment.

$1.99 shipping? I think I need to order some thread.

Kate, I know I can learn so that is not the problem I can learn anything I set my mind to. But I want to learn to rotary cut, piece quilt tops, and to quilt them and yes the quilting is going to be done on my sewing machine. I will learn to do it all before the end of this year too. I may not be the "pro' that I would like to be but I will be doing some things. I may also not be able to learn to rotary cut, well I will learn to but I may not be able to, due to the eyes and hands not working just right, but I am going to try even that, yet when I first started this idea, again this year, I had no intentions of cutting, but I have so much I want to do that I have to at least try to cut. I had planned on learning to quilt several years ago but my mother got sick and I ended up taking care of her, which I would not trade that time for any thing, even a quilt. Now I am taking care of my father who has dementia and he does, esp. in the winter, play on his computer, so I have set my sewing machine up in the same room his computer is in and we can keep each other company.

I highly recommend Quilt University. Tons of on-line quilting classes on many subjects and techniques. A class is just starting called "Starting from Scratch" it is taught by Carol Miller who is a very good teacher.

The best part is that every class has a discussion group so you can ask questions when you get stuck and the teacher can help you out.

The classes are up for a couple weeks after the end of the session so you get a great amount of flexibility as to when you log on and pull down the lesson.

I'll second that. I have it; it's great. And Ricky Timm's is a hoot. Very funny man.

The video covers a lot more than just machine quilting. There are a lot of embellishment techniques he explains that I plan to sit down and learn. Some day. (Really!) (What, you don't believe me?) *giggle*

Both, of course! I have them both, and they're both very good and cover slightly different things. :)

I luv the McTavish DVD. Mctavish emphasizes machine quilting, Timms piecing free style. Your choice really depends on what you want to focus on. The other reason I like the Mctavish DVD is the up close pictures of the quilting. Makes me feel a little better about my imperfections.
