European block swap

I have started to sew the blocks of last year's European block swap together. I was sewing happily along, pleased with those beautiful blocks I got, when I realized the quilt will be too short. As if I couldn't have noticed earlier . 4 rows are finished , 3 of them are sewn together, now what should I do ? I need a 5th row or something else. Enlarging the top and bottom borders won't look good. I suppose it will take a bit longer to finish this top, than I thought :-) Heidi from Germany

Could you put a wide strip at the top and bottom before the borders and put an applique viney stem with flowers along them. Perhaps one starting from the left and one from the right, meeting and entwining in the middle?

Could you take the rows apart and put a wider sashing between them? In addition to wide borders? Roberta in D

can you add a narrowish border, then a row of filler type simple blocks, then another border, all this at both ends? my first foggy thot of the day. jeanne

Carol used a great method on her BOM quilt. Check it out.

Thanks Sally, I'm still thinking about it. I'm not sure :-) Looks like I have always problems with the size of my quilts Heidi

I could do that, but I don't want to. I put a photo on my webpage under new, you can easily see, why. Where the sashing meets, there are stars. I don't know if this sort of sashing has a name, but I've seen it often and always wanted to do it. If I would take it apart, all the work with those tiny triangles would have been in vain :-) Heidi from Germany "Roberta Zollner" schrieb:

Yes, that could be an option. Maybe stars or something like that. Thanks :-) Heidi from Germany "nzlstar*" schrieb:

Hi Marina, thank you so much for your offer, I'm really tempted to accept it :-)) Jessamy has offered me to make one too, so I would have to make only one block. I'll sleep one more night over it Heidi from Germany btw you can see your block on my page, under 'new', already on its place in row 2

Hmm--- I see! But a couple rows of those stars at top and bottom would fit right in and look like you planned it that way. Roberta in D

Thanks again, Jessamy, Marina and Estelle for the offer to help me with additional blocks. But I think I'll follow Roberta's proposal and add some stars at the top. I remeasured the top and think it will be big enough then. It's probably silly, but it would have felt like cheating if i had gotten additional blocks. Well, yes it is definitely silly :-))) Heidi from Germany P.S. And of course I'll show you the finished top
