Block sashing

I don't have the answer, Estelle. I don't even know what 'dergy' is. However, you'll just need to audition some colors to see what creates the mood you are looking for. Put a piece of soft green up on your design wall or your table or bed and place some of the blocks on top so there's just an inch or so of the green peeking out around them. Try black, then watermelon pink. Purple. If you stash isn't big enough, go get your shirts ( or DH's). Your blocks have so many colors and styles going that there probably are going to be several colors that will call to you. This is my favorite part of quilt design; have fun. Polly

I got some small pieces of fabric out and tried them against the screen! First time I've done that and it was great.

I tried a black, navy, red-purple and blue-purple. They all looked just fine; though, as you said the colours are darker than they appear, that might be a bit dark overall?

Then I tried a blue-turquoise and a more green turquoise, mid value. They looked better than the dark, and the whole thing lit up - especially with the more greeny-peacock-y colour. Only thing was, I couldn't quite picture it with the vivid red/pink?

Definitely a mottled black! Maybe a tone-on-tone or one with a trace of tans in it? Blacks always make a quilt look so rich and elegant!

These are, indeed, dark and rather dreary color combinations; need some light to liven it up, some clear colors, which will work just fine w/ batiks; no more muddy colors, please.

I would go for the red sashing for a *wow* look ... or cream for a more subtle, softer look. If it was my quilt - red all the way. :-)

I think I'm with Sandy. While red might look great with the majority of the blocks, it might just be awful with the really red block. I'd try laying them out mixed up, interspersing the dark ones with the lighter ones. Having the darks in one place makes the choice harder (IMO). I normally really love black, I don't think it would work so well here, since so many darks are included. I think I'd try to find a color that isn't in any of the blocks and go from there. Gen

I think i like the idea of staying in the batik mode. intersperse the darker blocks with the lighter ones and as a "pop" color, maybe use a cream/yellow/gold batik in the center sashings and a darker goldish batik as a border next to the blocks. Then i think i'd use a cranberry/ maroon as an outside border. Heidi. Nice to hear from you. No that is'nt the layout. I just put them on the floor out of the sunlight to try and get the colours right. I need to make one more block to add and that will make 16.Is your top posted anywhere for me to take a peep.? I am leaning towards the gold/or purple. I want to take it to a retreat on 8th Nov so must make my mind up!

I think the fan is the New York Beauty block from Heidi. It is lovely. The" Broken" block is new to me , and I wish I knew how to make it. I dont even know its name. That too is lovely. I was very lucky with my block swap results.

I can't see it, Estelle -- something about a high volume of traffic. :(
