Block sashing

She switched pics. Try this:

That 'broken' block looks like it was made by bordering a center square until it was over sized, then making one wonky slash top to bottom and sewing it back together, then making a wonky slash side to side and sewing back together, then trimming to size wonky fashioned. I haven't the slightest what it is called, but that's how I would try to make it. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Well Estelle, I'm going to throw an even bigger spanner in the works.

As much as red is my favourite colour... really is........ that red block sticks out like a sore thumb. Why don't you remove it and make a separate wall hanging or use it as the center of a medallion and work around it that way. Then make 2 extra blocks in colours that go with what's there already. Then on similar lines to what Jeanne suggested, use 2 different sashing fabrics in the same colour but one dark and one light. Put the light around the dark blocks and dark around the light blocks. My suggested colour would be burgandy in light and dark. Take a look at the Hoffman hand dye batik solids.
