fabric bargain!

Yesterday I stopped by the local Tuesday Morning store -- a great place for wierd bargains. To my utter surprise, there was a bundle of quilting fabric strips -- well over 50 strips at 3 1/2 yards each and

2 1/2 inches wide, all very nicely coordinated. The quality of the fabric is excellent. And I got it all for under $10. I'm not sure what I will do with it.

Sounds like they could be adapted to a bargello pattern perhaps? . In message , Mary writes

How about Boston Commons? I bought a bunch of 2 1/2" squares from an estate sale, and had a happy time sitting and arranging them into concentric rectangles. This quilt didn't have enough of any one print to make all the rings but I just substituted where necessary and you know what? I really love that it is not all matchy-matchy.

I think with your strips a Boston Commons would be much easier than with lots of tiny squares!

Wow, how cool. I'll have to run over there tomorrow!

That's a jelly roll, I think... 40 - 2.5" strips = 3.5 yards of cloth. It's a Moda thing I think, they started us buying pre-cuts.

What about a braid quilt? Or... there's a great tool I found called the "Wonder Cut Ruler" which basically allows you to sew to strips together on BOTH top and bottom (right sides together, sewn all the way down the length, 1/4 seam on the top and 1/4" on the bottom. Then the ruler lines up on the SEAM and an angle line. Then you cut. You end up with perfectly sized, and perfectly proportioned half-square triangles without having had to sew across the bias.

All that to say... if you had that tool (you can order it online, just google it - and no, I'm not affiliated with them or anything!). If you had that tool, you could do all kinds of traditional pieced quilts using the half square triangles, and other stripe cut/sewn options.

Whoo hoo!
