I had one of those cold calls yesterday, from a charity... This was a little different! Small local charity that helps with vet bills for those in difficulty. The lady rang me up because after a house tidy-up, they had this fabric they wanted to sell to help make some money for the bills. Could I use it?
Well, I dunno, do I, not without looking at it... So over she came with
4 large carrier bags of fabric. She took one back, with stuff I can't use at all, but the rest is:3 yards of 54" wide tweed in beige, cocoa brown and airforce blue... Old fashioned, but rather nice. I have a couple of Vintage Vogue patterns for suits and coats that will make up nicely in this.
One 60" wide by 56" long chunk of plain brown hairy tweed. Reeks of Saxon costume type thing...
4 yards of 35" wide (wool mix?) forrest green crepe with cream coloured leafy feathery small print... Very 70's, but rather nice. I have a nice wartime Utility frock pattern that this will make up very nicely...One offcut of a meter of 36" wide satin lining (heavy duty - will make a nice waistcoat lining & back)
4 yards of 36" wide (wool mix?) crepe in chocolate brown with a small dot print arranged in squares... Another very 70's print, but quite nice. Another nice Vintage pattern for this, I feel.1 yard of 60" wide fawn & cream checked linen, with zip: a skirt length! Not sure it's my kind of skirt, but would make a fantastic summer bag or two.
A chunk 57" wide and 32" long of unbleached calico with a stripe in grey and pink... Very 70's grandad shirt sorta fing. More bags! Possibly a few peg bags...
3 yards of 34" wide cotton in cream, with a grean and lilac mini-print flower. Very 70's 'Victorian' sort of print. I feel this will sit in the costume box a year or two and then become something slightly mad and Vicky flavoured.3 yards of light blue polycotton with dark blue chrysanthamum print. Has dust/drawer mark that will probably wash out. Bag lining. Definitely kids' bag project lining.
8 ft chunk of 43" wide crinkle cotton cheesecloth in dark brown. Has faded bit... I may redye this, along with a brown cotton skirt I have that got a faded chunk in it. The skirt is one of those embroidered broomstick things, so the two will go together very well...2 chunks of black (cotton? Rayon? Mix of the two?) with woven flower stripe in alternating pink and white, about 1" apart. One chunk is 3 yards, the other 2 yards... This may well become bags.
2 chunks of pink moire bengaline curtain fabric, probably polyester, 48" wide, and 47" and 50" long respectively. Hm... Could be school costumes, or it could become Christmas stockings, or it might end up as bags... Dunno yet.I paid her £16 for the lot. Not a bad haul, and it helps the charity.
