Fabric Diet

It is now well and truly November here (about lunchtime on the 1st), and I have managed (without too much effort surprisingly!) to go a full month without buying any fabric for myself. I did have to order a few small things for other people, but I did not add to the orders for myself AT ALL.

Sadly I could not resist peeking at the site Sunny listed (Fabrictales) and I just bought a couple of (very inexpensive) patterns - but still no fabric.

There is enough fabric in my house to last five prolific quilters two life times each. So I am resolved to cut back on my fabric buying. I also have more books and patterns than any quilt shop I have ever come across anywhere, and I still have a wishlist for books/patterns/gadgets a mile g - but one addiction at a time!

How did the other fabric dieters go?

I fell off the diet last week. I bought some bright solids to start on several PP stars.

I did very well, including going to a quilt show with some very dedicated enablers. The only fabric purchase in October was Scarlet Poinsettias by Michael Miller from

The Christmas flowers are just gorgeous and more than 8" wide. We have a sister who will be hospitalized during the holidays and thought it would be just right for a sort of topper for her bed and/or wheelchair. (But the truth is, I couldn't have resisted anyway.) Polly

Well done Cheryl! I'm proud of you, and Sunny and everyone else doing this.

Keep it up, you'll have more money for chocolate or holidays

I'd done really well on my fabric diet, until I went to NC to visit my cousin last week. After 12 days of very high stress this month, I really needed a relaxing time. I stopped at Batik's , etc. in Wytheville, VA on the way down. Bought way more than planned, but found border and backing fabric for 2 WIPs. Besides that they were 45 % off if you took the rest of the bolt, so I did! We made 2 trips to Mary Jo's in Gastonia and I got border fabric for 2 more WIP's. Guess I'd best get back to both my fabric and regular diet. I really want to shed a lot of pounds. For those that have successfully lost weight, what plan worked for you? I have to really get serious about this. Gen

So glad you went over to see it, Kate. I've draped mine over the sofa and go by to pat it and make promises. It just lights up the whole room. Well, except for the big brown box of batting that has yet to find a hidey hole here. Polly

Weight Watchers of Central Indiana was fantastic for me! Very supportive group of people and enthusiastic instructors who had fun with the lesson plans. Lost 55 pounds.

Moved to Reno/Sparks and found that Weight Watchers was quite different. More of a nagging, badgering, yelling group and the instructors didn't use the WW suggested lesson plans. Gained 25 pounds back.

So, find a GOOD Weight Watchers group. The print material is great no matter who the iinstructor is. Many doctors and health plans support the plan. there is even an online version. It's all worth the oney, as long as it is supportive.

You could always buy more of that beautiful fabric and drape it over the box. ;o) - Just trying to be helpful!

Patterns don't count - in fact they are negative fabric calories because they use up fabric.

Oh I didn't know that!!!

In that case I actually "lost" for the month of October as I splurged on some patterns.

Ohhh! That's how it works! I always wondered. Thank you -- now I can figure out if I need to buy more fabric to make it all balance out. LOL
