Facebook RCTQ group

There was some chatter about having a group on facebook for RCTQ in another thread so I went ahead and set it all up.

You should be able to get to it from the link above, otherwise search for RCTQ on facebook.

Well......... you could be the first to post up some pictures to the group if nobody else beats you to it ;)

I guess I'm showing my ignorance, but how does one join the facebook group?

And on a related topic, if you don't post on RCTQ using your real name and you send a Facebook friend invite to another RCTQer, it might be a good idea to mention in the message who you are. I know I decline invites from people I don't recognize, and I'm sure others do too.

First you have to join Facebook. I think you can do that by clicking on the link above and then clicking on wherever it says "join group". Then there should be some prompts for joining FB. [one important thing to be aware of is "privacy levels" - it's safer to have everything set on "friends only" so that the whole world doesn't have access to your profile] HTH Allison

Please read the terms and conditions before you sign up. I took a look yesterday and, as I understand it, you give facebook.com non-exclusive rights to everything you put out there. I'm not sure I'm ready to sign up for that...

I'm there, along with 26 (27?) others from the group.

It may be my inability to understand computer type things, but Facebook asked for permission to have access to my address book in my email account. I couldn't find any way to refuse that access and yet still have a Facebook page. I made a new Yahoo email account to use exclusively with Facebook- and that email has no addresses in the address book. Just a thought.... or maybe somebody here can explain to me how to keep my friends email addresses private?

My caricature looks quite distinctive amongst all the photos that are on Facebook... I've added a link on my Facebook page to where my quilt photos are.

I've just received 2 Facebook messages in the Junk Box of my e-mail from names I didn't know, and which didn't have my name in the 'To' box. I deleted them.

As has been said, the facebook group was not meant to replace this group by ANY means! Just another avenue of communication ;)

It might even draw in some fresh blood from those searching for quilty stuff on facebook who had no idea about newsgroups :)

We can never have to many quilters here right?

That's an interesting side to it! You are right about newsgroups being elusive. Or the # of quilters that are here. :-) I can't remember if I have a MySpace acct or a Facebook acct. I don't go there very often although maybe I will now!

I have had several of those recently too. From before the rctq group was started. I have my FB options set to "don't send any emails" so I know for sure they are junk. Course I am pretty leery of opening any email if I don't 100% recognize where it's coming from. Allison
