Finished...on topic

The last of the Katrina relief quilts is done. After dinner, DIL and I will take the final 7 to be shipped to Quilters Comfort America. Now I can get back to hug block, BOM, and other block commitments including baby quilts for my granddaughter and 2 grandsons that are due between Oct 18 and Jan 20.

Well done, Mary! And I see I am in good company in the "grand" club. I have a granddaughter due on October 9th. I'm having problems getting her quilts done, let alone for two other grandbabies!

Thanks. :-) I've got the top done for the granddaughter's quilt and for one grandson. Just found out last night that the January baby is a boy. I leave about Oct 3 for California to be with my daughter when she gives birth. I think she wants me to help her decorate the nursery. If she's "on time" we will have 2 weeks to get that done.

Well, you're in better shape than me. My SIL still can't decide on a color for the nursery. I have stopped changing the color choices for the quilts. I think they will match each color she's chosen one time or another.

Oops - you can tell I'm tired - that should be DIL - I was thinking son and daughter in law and it came out SIL.

I wondered why SIL was picking nursery colors/theme.

Especially since I said the quilt was for my granddaughter! Would have made a great "family tree"story, huh?

Thanks. Guess I won't get to my BOM, hugs, etc today. I just got a call to work.

I met with my friend who is a volunteer coordinator and was last years NWA BWA Woman of the Year. We had a wonderful lunch at the local Thai Kitchen and browsed at the Purple Armadillo antique shop. But mostly we talked about the positives of having the Evacuuees from the Gulf Coast Disaster in our County. Most plan to stay and have already obtained jobs. Walmart is hiring and making positions for those that were former employees displaced by the storm. Housing is filling up all over the area. Our Schools ( we can't seem to build them fast enough) are over flowing. My fleece blankets were a success and I'm using up the last of my stash that I had on hand to make more. My Athena is smoking. Over the last 10 years we have become culturally diverse and these folks will be very welcome addition and will only add to the new Arkansans we have. When I first moved to the Ozarks there was one African American family in Benton County and none in MacDonald County to the North. Now I see many Asian, East Indian, and our Spanish speaking Americans have grown in leaps and bounds. We are much better for the new members of our area and I really hope these folks decide to stay here and make it their home.
