Flicker policies

I just read some of their privacy policy for use. I have to say that I do not like it at all. They say they will ask you to share you SS# and some other financial information from time to time to basically direct market you. Also they do share your information with third parties to again direct market you. I basically stopped reading after all that and I was hardly done at all.

Now I will admit when I signed up for webshots I never read their policy so I have no idea what's in it. Back then privacy and junk mail was not the issue that it is today. However I've never received junk mail from them. In fact I think the only thing I've ever received from them was their weekly email which I signed up for.

I'm almost leaning towards setting up my own website for my pics. However I can't see how I can manage the time to do this. So I'll wait to hear from others if there is any better alternatives out there. Joanna Alberta

Wow. I wonder about Photobucket... I do like the silence of Flickr after the noise of Webshots, but I hate the idea of gathering everything for a real move.

I was hoping that Webshots would not only allow paid members to browse without ads, but would allow others looking at paid members' pics to do the same. I'm not happy about subjecting my visitors to the intrusions.

I have Flickr and have for sometime. I don't remember anything intrusive in their info. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't give them my social security number or any financial info.

It wasn't saying you have to give that out to sign up. It says that from time to time they may ask you relavent financial questions to determine if you qualify for certain partner's offers, which may include SS, your income and so forth. Yes I understand most of us would never answer such questions. My whole point was that it's actually in their policy that they share what ever information you DO choose to give them. I have issue with any website that says it will share your information. Even if it is a hotmail email acct or a bogus sign in that I've come up with.

Flickr is now owned by Yahoo. That's typical of the way Yahoo operates.

If you have a Facebook account you can post pictures to that and they will give you a link directly to the pictures that you can post/give so that others can look only at the pictures without being your "friend". Might be worth your while to do that.

I've been on flickr.com for a long time and never been asked to offer up any private information. They know nothing about me that isn't apparent from the photos. They automatically post what type of camera was used, I suppose each one has a signature or some such. But I've got no complaints about Flickr.

If you disable the Flash player add-in to your browser (I happen to use Firefox, but Internet Explorer uses it as well) the annoying loud ads do not play on Webshots.

Well, okay, that's good to know, but what if I want the Flash player elsewhere? I may as well turn off my speakers.

I have the AdBlock Plus addon for Firefox. It does a good job of blocking Flash ads.
