New LO posted

When I read about M-C's February Contest I got this great idea for a LO...right? I worked on it the whole weekend - even hunted for the right paper (at the LSS's of course). After I got it done I pulled out the directions to see exactly how to e-mail the LO and read "one page LO." Well - mine is a two page LO. So instead of entering it into the contest I entered it in my webshots. Next time I plan to print the contest rules and tape them to the wall over my work table........ Oh well..........my DS l(you know - the one with all of the Altoid tins) loves the LO and wants to hang it in his room beside his Power Ranger poster......wonder how many tins I can trade a LO for.............. I really like your layout.

I wish I had the guts to distress something as elegantly as you did.

Sandy...I see you used the Colorbox Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk to distress your blocks & edges and the effect is just beautiful. I love the Bear Necessities LO's but wanted to clarify something about distressing in scrapbooks. Does it say on this product it is acid-free? I ask because my understanding from my local LSS owner is that it is not and they have emailed to verify this with Clearsnap. I also have a Colorbox comparison chart that says this product is not AF either. Their Cat's Eyes *pigment* inkpads are AF but the chalks no!!! Even their website misses out on saying these are AF, I just wondered if you knew any different :o)

My concern is that if you are using this close to photographs they could deteriorate in time and all that beautiful work could be spoiled. I know that some people are not too concerned but you may want to research this further. Perhaps other peeps know different and I would appreciate hearing what they know. In the meantime I have emailed Clearsnap personally to get their information on it.

Hi Sandy....LOL I have also emailed them for clarification on this and asked specifically about using for distressing techniques in scrapbooks. I will send you a copy of the ink pad comparison chart I have in pdf format meantime. Can't remember where I downloaded it from at the moment but I believe it is actually their brochure, as it lists all/and only their products. I noted that in their online shop they say archival *quality* but they don't specifically say they are acid free in the product info. They are quite upfront about putting AF on many of their other products, so why miss this one out!

I bought the VersaMagic to try this technique out as they do say they are AF but until now I have just used chalk or my ordinary inch cube pads to ink edges or I use a dauber. I know that the Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk are really popular here in the UK for card making and stamping because they are easy to blend with a stylus. I only mentioned it because the heritage look is so big right now and people are distressing on many of their LO's...better safe than sorry is what I say. Perhaps I am wrong on this but it is worth making sure before going too far with it :o)

Sandy, I think what has made the Cat's Eye popular is the size and shape...makes it so easy to hold for doing small areas and edges. That was what attracted me to them until my LSS owner said the fluid chalk was not AF :o( I am going to see if the VersaMagic comes in small cubes when I am at the Hobbycrafts Exhibition on Thursday, as I bought the standard size. It is a multi-surface chalk and also acid-free. I will look out for the Ranger Pads while I am there, as it looks like they do some nice colours in them.

Very cute "beary" layout! :-) I like the distressed look you gave the layout. Makes me feel the bear is very special and will be around in your DS's life...if not heart...for a very long time. Great job! Is the wording on the title stickers, die cuts, hand written, or what? It's a great font!

Computer font from Lettering Delights - LD Note Pad. I think you're probably right - he's been around for over a year now and he's still #1. Sandy

Thank you, Shannon. Still trying to find out about the fluid chalk acid free issue. I finally got an e-mail address direct to a rep of their company. Waiting for a response. Sandy

Thanks, Trish. My DS stood over me while I worked on it offering suggestions. He tried to talk me into letting him take it to school to show his teacher. Sandy

Oh that is very cute. I've seen 12X12 frames I've been thinking of hanging some temporarily before they go in the album.
