Marilyn, The chart you sent me came straight from their website. The thing that concerns me about the whole issue is they say right on their website that the fluid chalks are archival safe. Then when you look at their chart it states they are not acid free. When I researched further I found there are various degrees of "archival safe." Like up to 25 years, 25-50 years and

50-100 years. Wanted to share with you one of the responses I received concerning the Cat's Eye Fluid chalk.

"Sandy, if the ink isn't in direct contact with your pictures *AND* the pictures are buffered (ie: with a mat) so that any ink on the paper won't migrate onto the picture, you will be fine. If you are still in doubt, you can remove the pictures and replace them with color photo copies or spray the area of the paper that has the ink on it with a de-acidifying spray (ie: Archival Mist by EK Success)"

Still have not yet received an actual reply from Clearsnaps. This came from another LSS owner and teacher. I going to get a can of the spray next time I'm at a store. Thanks for sending me the info. Sandy

Sandy,

LOL....I never checked that the chart was their own when I went to their site. Knew I had downloaded it from somewhere....ROFL....another senior moment!!!! So I guess it is safe to say that the Colorbox Cat's Eye Fluid Chalks are not AF then and we should avoid using them with precious memories, like original photos!!! Thanks for the update and like you I have had no response from Clearsnap either but will let you know if I get anything.

Now if you were making cards it may not be that important to you to use AF products. I could be wrong though, perhaps it would be equally important as some people also scrapbook cards they receive. Anyway, card making is more popular here in the UK and there *was* very little emphasis on AF/LF until scrapbooking began to develop. A lot of my original stuff is probably not AF as it was bought for card making. Now it seems that people are more concerned overall with the AF/LF issue.

While I am sure that you appreciated an "answer of sorts" from your LSS owner it really doesn't do a lot to put your mind at ease on whether your precious photographs will be OK in 10, 20, 50 years time. This seems to be the kind of response I have heard from other people but I am not sure it cuts the mustard...LOL All sounds a little like a cop out to me. Erm.....if this is the case then that should be fine but you could do the other...but whatever way you go in the end.....don't blame me if it all turns out to be wrong......LOL I think you may be wise to treat with the archival mist if you don't want to redo the layout....but I would keep a careful eye on the photo quality.
