Louise's little quilt is cute and it's a nice block. I've only made one, the traditional way but I like the look of the 'cheats' way too. That would be a good one for a small project linus. The one I made was for my first sampler. Not so sure I'd like to make a large quilt out of one, but not because I dislike it, I admire anyone who can make a large quilt from one block, using just a few fabric choices, but I'd just get bored with the repitition (where's butterfly my spell checker:)) I loved the churn dash so much that I decided to make a lot of them for a small hanging and hated it by the time I'd finished... though it's one I'd teach.

What's a hug block?

Some kind person will know the url for Hugs and their explanation; but I'll give you a brief description, Elly: As you will have seen, although we are widespread geographically, it is possible to get to know people and become friends. Sometimes there are major upsets in our friends' lives - live-changing situations - not all sad or related to health; we have recognised bereavement, weddings, serious illness, and so on. Someone will suggest that we make a Hug Quilt for whoever's life has been touched. Kate G. is now 'in charge' of the Hug list, insofar as she has e-mail addresses of those of us who want to be told when there is a Hug going on. If we have time, when the call comes, we will each make a block - signed - or even a blank square, if time is really short. Then someone who suggested it will put the blocks together (he/she will also give us the size - usually 6.5" and the colours to be used); this person might also do the quilting, but not necessarily. Sometimes a volunteer is asked for to do the quilting. When the Hug Quilt is made, we try to get someone living near-ish to deliver it personally. It is all done in complete secrecy on the Hug list. The Hugs we have made are on a website - some clever person who keeps all these addresses to hand, will be able to tell you that. Sorry to be so useless in that regard! . In message , Elly writes

I am unable to do that, PAT, as I have often explained on this group. Nor can I see the change of topic that you achieved, on my 'list'.

I was merely answering Elly's question. There was intention to derail the topic. I would not have done that - nor would Elly have realised that that would happen. It was just a short answer to a reasonable enquiry. I could have started another thread; perhaps I should have done. Mind you, I so rarely overstep the mark, in any way, that I do not appreciate being ticked off. . In message , Pat in Virginia writes

Dear Pat,

My intention was not to insult you. Please excuse my post as being too brief and blunt. I should have explained that the Hug Topic is important and deserves its own title.

Let the (missing) message reflect that I treasure you & Pat as quilting buddies. ;-)

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy -- who is also pesky about changing the subject line IF one is able ;-)

Thanks PAT. I was upset more than insulted, as I had no intention at all of taking us away from your Focus theme. I just thought of it as a quick aside. It was good of you to explain; and all is now forgotten. . In message , Pat in Virginia writes

Much appreciated Sandy, (though having just rounded off my dinner with a few pralines!) I didn't have room for any real cake, but cyber/virtual cake went down a treat >gHowdy!
