foundation piecing

all the books seem to have a downer on photocopiers or printers for producing your templates, but the magazine that had the pattern had some of the pieces needing to be blown up, so I couldn't avoid using it in part, looking at the results they seemed to be accurate copies, so I went ahead and produced the whole lot with the photocopier, so now I have 16 sheets, each with 3 templates on, all ready and raring to go, I'm quite excited it's my first go at foundation piecing, any tips?

There have been a lot of discussions about this over time, Anne. I suggest that you Google, Groups and then enter 'rec.crafts.textiles.quilting', to get to our archives. You can then enter the 'foundation piecing' search words. I'm sure you won't need to go back many days before something will crop up! Various threads seem quite recent, but time goes so quickly these days that I wouldn't trust my memory! . In message , Anne Rogers writes

As Patti suggested, do a search to get the back discussions. Just one thing I want to say, and it's what I consider THE most important thing to remember when paper piecing -- You Sew Stuff BACKWARDS!!! Fabric is against the BACK SIDE of the line drawing and against your sewing machine. You sew on the front side of the line drawing. I have done a whole bunch of paper piecing and I screw this up each and every time I start a new project -- LOLOL! I might get the first few fabrics on the page correctly but then I will for sure screw up placement of a fabric -- LOL! Just go slow and pay attention and don't forget that how you lay the fabric and sew it, is different than where it will end up!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I am not advertising but when I started to Foundation Piece I bought the DVD that Carol Doak brought out called Carol Doak teaches you to paper piece. It is so explanitory you will become an expert in no time. She sells it on her web site.
