Guild Monday NIght - strange request

Eleanor Burns' sister Pat Knoechel is going to give a trunk show at our meeting Monday night. I come from an Italian immigrant area and have no problems pronouncing Italian names, but this one has us stumped.

I say it's pronounced "NO'-shell". I think the "K" would be silent, but what do I know?

Anyone else have a clue? It's always a nice touch if you can pronounce someone's name when you introduce them.

Thanks, all.

Maybe you'd better ask her. My friends whose names begin with Kno pronouce theirs with a Kuh-n.... but this is the South and we can add extra syllables to anything. And if she starts tossing things over her shoulder and directing you to "get rid of it", you'll know that you're in trouble. That Eleanor is really something. Polly

If it is a German name... the first vowel is silent... so it could be "Knee-shell" or "Knee-chel"....

My maiden name was Eifert... and was pronounced "eye-fert"

and one of my bosses over the years... was Richard Reich ... which was pronounced "Rike"

so I would ask her quietly before you introduce her.... I'm sure she is used to it by now!

She gave a trunk show last night (friday) in this end of the state and I had to miss it. Bummer.

Cindy: Just ask Pat how to pronounce her name. I pronounce mine to rhyme with 'cat.'

Oh, you mean Knoechel!! I've known people with similar names who DO pronounce the K, while others do NOT pronounce it. So, my suggestion is: ASK Pat! People probably do that all the time anyhow.
