Help with Machine quilting !

Okay, so here I am with my third "real quilt project", Christmas in July. It has three fifteen inch panels and the sashing around them.

I decide that I will use my special foot, and machine quilt this baby. Of course, do I practice on something else, do I play around? NO not me, I just throw the poor baby in there and get started

Anyway. My questions are

  1. I actually did pretty well in the ditch around the block, but the area around the applique is uneven (I did one block). If I pull out all of those machine stitches and redo that part, will it look terrible.

  1. I started at the bottom and did all around the panel. Should I have done all the ups and downs and then the acrosses?? Does it matter?

  2. I did the qulting around the big applique (two big berries and two leaves) and then did the outside of the block. Should I have done it the other way around?

I have taken a break now, both because I am sweating abnd need to find my fan, and I am awaiting advise.

I think I need a siesta its too hot to do anything else!

Hey Barbara,

I've only MQd two quilts so still learning (from my mistakes) so I would say an important thing would be to quilt up/down/across the quilt to at least stabilize the quilt top to the batting/backing before concentrating on any one area. In other words, start with the big picture before going back into the smaller areas. So outside the block before inside. And if you have made a mistake that really, really bugs you, it will always really, really bug you so you might as well redo it now so you can sleep at night.

Don't forget the pics :)

LOng time ago--I had a Boss-Lady that would say: IF you make a mistake STOP and redo it Don't keep going, expecting it to get better....you will only have that much more to Un-Do

Every time I get 'g> Hey Barbara,

ah well, its only a small section, but it does stand out (around one of the appliques. The rest will work itself out.

I guess thats what I'm doing at my quilt club tomorrow.

I actually think its easier. I do fusible applique though, and then hand stitch around it. I will be doiing my first quilt that is compelte piecing, one from the fat quarters quilt book.
