HGTV show last Saturday- not OT

Did anyone happen to have seen the decorating show last Saturday on HGTV in the early afternoon? It was something along the lines of 101 ways to make your home more Springlike (NOT the actual title!) Joan Steffend was the hostess (Decorating Cents is her usual show). Near the end they were doing a bathroom shower curtain where they had painted squares of material with special paint that turns in the sunlight. They laid a fern and a piece of paper cut like a bird on it. Set the blocks in the sun and then when dried it left the lighter area in the shape of the fern & bird. I know there is special paper you can use, but they were talking about special paint. Anyone know anything about this. I was was thinking this might make a great looking quilt with large blocks and maybe throwing in some batiks.

I saw something that sounds like that in a demo at an LQS a couple years ago. They said you could make a block or even do a yard of fabric at a time. These gals can give you more info and the name of the products used.

yup, thats the stuff. it works a treat. i got to do a workshop with it long ago. need a good sunny, non-windy day and some rocks just to hold those corners down. we pulled weeds, dandelions, other leaves/flowers from the garden. also you can use large rock salt (save it cuz you can reuse it). heat the salt in the microwave just before it gets tossed on the wet freshly painted fabric and you'll get some neat texture too. the bigger pieces of salt the better. it grabs the dye and causes a whoosh design. just sprinkle it on anywhere and everywhere over/around whatever else you put on it. layer/overlap stuff too. you can use cut out designs from cardboard. kids plastic toys, well anything plastic, combs, kitchen things, whatever floats you boat. you can theme the different things you use. you can make it into pictures too. like a big top circus from cardboard and other shapes that fit the bill. the items you put on it do not have to be perfectly flat. you'll get a more shadow effect when an item is not flat all over. like a curved leaf. you'll want to also use some small heavy rocks to just hold stuff where you put it, in case there is any breeze around. you'll love it. with ferns it will come out much like the fossil fern type fabrics. ohhhhhhhh, i should of brought some of that stuff home from usa last year, oh well, too late now. have a blast and do take pix when you get some made. dharmatrading has all the info and the materials you'll need. woooooohoooooooooo. jeanne

"Shower Curtain A one-of-a-kind shower curtain is made using a lot of sunshine. Cotton hankies are slightly dampened and then painted with a special sun print paint. Interestingly shaped leaves are laid on top of the hankies and then placed in direct sun. Only the fabric that is exposed to the sun develops color. The fabric underneath the leaves remains white. ...sun-printing paint: Pebeo Seta available at Michaels"

I wonder what effect it would have to lay various lenses, prisms, & glasses on it. JA

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I have bookmarked the page and next time I'm in Fort Worth I will check at Michaels to see if I can find it.
