how many sewing machines?

I have three machines, a Janome 6500 (which I now want to sell, Janome Platinum 720 and a Bernina 1001 which I bought about three weeks ago. The Bernina is a mechnaical one and I bought it for thread painting but have fallen in love with it and, after a spell in the doldrums before I bought it, have begun to make quilts again. I have completed three Linus quilts and have seven more tops ready for sandwiching. This means that I have emptied two boxes of scraps and I feel really good about that. In addition, because I wanted to find fabrics for borders and backings, I sorted out all my fabrics, wrapped them around a large ruler, folded them in half and put them away neatly. Now I know what fabric I own for the first time in several years. Can you all tell that I feel really smug?

Can you change the blanket stitch settings as well? I heard that you can't or only a bit...Not sure if that was true or not --sometimes stories are just that...stories !.. .Thanks, Mary

Those 60s-70s era Kenmores are great - and you're right they are not fussy at all.

Sure can adjust the blanket stitch settings on the Janome 6600! There are SEVEN blanket type stitches. All travel forward then jump off to the left in varying combinations of forward, back, forward, left or forward and left, or several little stitches forward and then left, etc. My fave is Mode 2 stitch #39. The width goes from 7.0 to 6.5 to 6.0 and on down to 0.0. The length goes from 5.0 to 4.5 to 4.0 and on down to 1.0. I like 1.5W and

When all was said and done that is why I got that machine. None of my other machines do this stitch. I sat down one day and did a sample piece with the various stitches and settings so I can refer back to it. Lots of variety here.

I guess that I can jump in and list my machines, too. I went from a "Why would anybody need more than one sewing machine?" person to a "I just might NEED that cool machine." person in a very short time :-)

Bernina 830 that is over 30 years old and I still love it. Bernina 801 that I bought for my mother when I moved too far away for her to use the 830. I took it back when she passed away. Pfaff 230 (?) in a cabinet. A friend bought it at a yard sale for $30 and then had a "what was I thinking?" moment. I was happy to take it off his hands. Janome 6600P that I won in a raffle and love to pieces! Janome Jem 760 - if the Bernina has a little sister, the Janome must too. Two Elna sergers that I can't remember the model numbers of at the moment. One of them belonged to my MIL who sold it to me when she upgraded. It has never been used.
