I finished the stash bash!

As hard as it is to believe I finially finished going through every piece that was 1 yard or more in my over stuffed stash cabinet. I haven't finished the finally tally on the yardage yet but it is well over 4000 yards of fabric in the cabinet alone. DH says it looks like a fabric store. Our room mate says maybe we should find a way to line the living room walls with my fabric as a sound barrier. Of course I still have a great deal to do yet. I am now going through my scrap basket (again) and all my 1/2 yard pieces and fq's. Fortunately I can get through this littlte project in a day or so. I got up at 6a and started on it shortly there after and am making good progress. I have a lot of decissions to make. There is just so much I need to decide on what to keep and what to give away. Sorry, all these scraps are spoken for. My sister is just beginning to quilt and has asked for them and I know she won't be able to use them all so what she can't use will go to the local senior center. Believe it or not I have found a bit of time to relax and work on my GMFG in the evenings. I make myself quilt and relax with the quilt. I have about 1/3 of the hand quilting done now. If I can keep at it I will have it done by Thanksgiving. I am in no rush however and it will be done when it is done. I suppose I will have to take a picture and post the finished project for you. Give me a little bit to get that done. I need a cup of coffee here before I dig out the camera. Back to the fq's. juliasb

I don't think I could do this. I'd probably die when I realized how many yards of fabric I do have. And I'm planning to go buy more on Friday. I need something to use as backing for my red and green Xmas quilt.

Reading this is very inspiring to me.

We'll want to see your first project, of course!

Wow, 4,000 yards? Amazing. Do you still love each and every piece? I love going through my fabric. It's all just as wonderful as when I bought it. And I still don't have a clue what to do with most of it. LOL. I must admit to total impulse buying when it comes to fabric. Well, enjoy and definitely a photo is in order.

That was my original plan, but I just can't face doing that much math at the moment. Will be a lot easier just to buy more. Sigh!

I spent yesterday going through fq's and half yard pieces. I cut out charms and made a very big bag of scraps to send over to to my sister who is just beginning to quilt. You are right that I will never use it all but I am going to give it a healthy try. julia

Fondling each piece is what took so long! And when I came across vintages pieces I had to take a little extra time. The oldest piece I found dated on the salvage was from the late 1940's. Of course the first indicator was it was 36" wide. The second indicator was that it still had the price tag from the dime store where she purchased it. The clincher, of course, was the date on the salvage. It was quite a tickle to say the least. I have decided that I am going to go on a top making spree. Just for the love of patchwork. It will be a few more days before I am able to get started but when I do look out stash. juliasb
