Quilt Heros

Okay, as a veteran of the military and a veteran of the quilt wars, I've decided to take today in this forum to remember the quilt hero. Please also remember these veterans today in your prayers. There are no medals, no parades, but the wounds are there, the night terrors, the screams of his favored credit cards....... Currently, I'm reading "Help, I Married a Quilter" by Mark Hyland, the president and CEO of HandiQuilter. According to his survey (chapter

1), I'm a "Goner." Hmm, compared to my bride, his is a slacker. He stands around in quilt shops holding bolts of fabric or wanders the proper 10 paces behind his bride at a quilt show carrying the bags. Piffle. The true quilt hero is hauled is off in an ambulance after 4 days of being the "technical coordinator" of a major quilt show (My extension cord is one foot too short! Waaa!). He mentions a "200 square foot" quilting room he had his builder put in for his bride. HAH! I designed the whole house around a quilting studio and a long arm (now ensconced in the basement). My bride told me of a woman that missed a quilt show. Her husband had taken her car to the shop because every time she bought fabric, she marked it down as oil, gas or car repairs. He cared enough for her that he wanted to ensure that she was driving a safe vehicle. Quilt heros are all around. They are enablers, they come in all shapes and sizes, they are all around you. If you don't know who they are. Look for the person with tiny scars around his lips from kissing a mouthful of needles. Look for the guy custom building the new cutting table. Look for the one putting together putting together another set of shelves to hold fabric. Look for the one sleeping under a duvet from bed bath and beyond, 'cause the quilter makes quilts for everyone else. To the quilt heros everywhere, I salute you. Frank Reid
