How do I get started again?

There have now been three deaths in my family in as many months and my hubby's health is not good. We spent yesterday at the hospital. Although I want to get back to quilting I'm not quite sure what sort of project to start with, and all my WIPS seem so uninspiring right now. Any suggestions on how to get started on something quilty again? Debra in VA See my quilts at:

Find some real bright/cheerful fabric that makes you feel good. Then try a pattern you have thought about in the past. Something quick. Maybe a table runner or such. A smaller quick project in cheerful colors may help a lot.

Hope things perk up for you and future news is good.

Howdy!

Trade w/ another quilter. Trade fabric or pattern, trade WIPs, trade pics or magazines. Give yourself "permission" to start something completely new. Order a fabric pack from Keepsake Quilting

Pick a small project, with a pattern or fabric that excites you. Give yourself permission to work on it. Feel good about finishing it, then start something else, or take a fresh look at your WIPs

So sorry to hear of your troubles, G> There have now been three deaths in my family in as many months and my

My goodness, it sounds like you need lots of hugs. Why don't you go to the Newborns in Need website, choose a chapter close or faraway and make a small quilt for a little angel who needs a hug too. Winter's setting in, harder and sooner than we expected. The quilt will warm a baby and knowing you've loved a little one that is struggling too will warm your heart. Babies don't care if your color choices are less than stellar or if your points match. They will know that somebody loves them. Polly

Start small. Maybe just go in to your sewing room, fold up the WIPs, tidy things away. Fondle. Maybe take some scraps and piece a small block.

If the WIPs don't inspire you, put them away and find something that does.

Go to your stash, pick out 6 fabrics. NO CHOOSING/ DECIDING, just pick/grab/put in brown paper bag. You purchased them--you must have liked them. This is not the time to say, "Oh, I must do something with...."

Shake bag thoroughly. Oh, good grief! NO,.I didn't mean yards of each. They hafta fit in the grocery brown bag.

SHAKE BAG thoroughly, now, pull ONE fabric from the bag (NO peeking or returning said fabric back) Ok, now......make something with that fabric. Even a 6 1/2" then make another. YES, if you need to, you can get diff fabric(s) to make a nice square, but you must use one that you got from the bag. Challenge yourself. In doing so, everything else is on the backburner in your mind;)

Gives you a mind break from worries for a few minutes. Last time I did this I ended up doing a whole stack of 6 1/2". I just got into a rhythm and I felt so much better after. I was sewing/quilting again and I was doing what *I* enjoyed.

Sounds like you just need some 'me' time.
