Things I learned at a seminar

I went to a seminar the other day at my Viking Dealer, and learned a few useful things that are for quilters, not just Viking users. The instructor said Loralie fabrics will be no more under her name. Loralie sold the rights to the fabric line, and as of now no one seems to know who bought them or if they will continue to be made. So she said if you find one you really like, best get it now. She apparently will be continuing her embroidery designs.

If you do a lot of paper piecing, a small wallpaper seam roller is great for pressing--no need for heat.

She made the suggestion that if you make lap quilts for nursing hope residents or babies to use a few squares of manipulated fabric. Wet or starch fabric, bunch it up, let dry,the place it on fusible web and iorn it. You can use fancy stitches on the block. Babies and elderly like texture to feel. She had really neat blocks done this way.

Oooh, really like that idea about manipulated fabric. Seems like I have a book around here somewhere about textures. I'll have to go find it and incorporate more of those kinds of ideas into my blocks. Thanks for passing along the ideas!
