Donate to a good cause

I haven't been here too much the last several weeks, I'm helping a friend set up a home for unwed mothers. She was looking for activities to keep the girls busy and I suggested having them make their babies quilts. WOW she got so excited she volunteered me to teach! Can you believe it????

These are girls who have probably never even sewed on a button, but I'm betting that we can accomplish one baby quilt.

So, if any of you ladies out there have fabric that you are dying to send to a good cause and they are suitable for infant quilts, We could sure use the fabric. I have offered to supply the batting (Warm and Natural, NO poly for babies) and the thread. There will be 6 - 8 young ladies in the residence. This will be a Christian based home, with my friend living there with her "family" of girls.

So, I just thought I'd ask. I don't need piles.

Thanks.

What do you have in mind? Do you want yardage or I Spy blocks? Strips? Give us a little guidance here and we'll be glad to share some good stuff with you. Might even send you some buttons, needles and thread. You've got to start somewhere. Polly

I have a map of the world. It is meant for children, not so sure about babies, but it is a panel and would only require borders to make it the correct size. Its kinda cute, I bought it for my son who was into maps, but the was out almost faster lol. It has animals on it in places where they come from, ie zebras over in Africa. Its cartoonish, but accurate. would be good for a young child (or baby in a year or two). I was just looking at it tonight wondering what on earth I was going to do with it. I will post a pic up in web shots as soon as I send this message.

For batting you might want to look into one of the new battings on the market. It is called Warm and Safe, from the makers of Warm and Natural, and is naturally fire retardant. I got a sample of it at Quilt Market, and it feels nice in a quilt, and washes up nice and snuggly. The fiber is a man-made cellulosic, made from farmed trees. I talked with the rep for a bit and he told me that the trees are planted in areas that were being "deforested", using the same workers to keep providing jobs. And the plants that do the processing discharge cleaner water than they take in for the processing. So it is a very "green" product. You might even contact The Warm Company to see about some donations or special pricing or something.

I talked to the Director and she said that anything would be great, even blocks as all the young mothers won't have the skill to do too much (there may be some handicapped girls). Buttons and needles and thread also will have their place. I am starting a plastic stack unit for all the things we collect. If you need my addy (it is in the directory) please send me an email.

Thank you for your generosity.

Carissa, that would make up into a quick and easy boy quilt now wouldn't it! Thank you.

What a wonderful idea! I will do that now. I definately would like them to be fire retardant.

I love that bonnet! I had to print it off and put it on my sewing table. Also, thanks for the yoyo doll. That's the one pattern I saw that I wasn't too impressed with. I like the pattern you can buy on SewThankful, I may just have to buy one. It is a cool pattern.
