I met Carol Doak today!

Carol was the guest speaker at the Ann Arbor Quilt Guild (she did classes yesterday and will tomorrow -- but I didn't get into either of those. -- bummer)

I arrived early and was sitting in the auditorium as Carol was working to get her AV equipment up and working (with the help of a building technician). She had a few minutes and said she was going to run out to the lobby for a few minutes... and on the way past my seat... I asked her if it would be appropriate to ask for her autograph (I just happened to have one of her early books in my bag!). She was happy to sign it (Thanks, Carol!)

I enjoyed her presentation. As we viewed the slides of her quilts -- she did indicate that while they looked like full sized quilts -- many were not. After the presentation, she did a little trunk show... Many of those quilts were about 12" square!!!! They were absolutely wonderful

I added a couple of more books to my collection... and have added a new goal for 2008 -- to complete at least 2 miniatures! She says they are actually easier than full sized quilts... I'll have to let you know on that -- but I might actually be able to quilt one of those myself!

Next up -- In June I will meet Alex Anderson -- who will also be in Ann Arbor on a Monday -- and the following Saturday I will have a class with Ami Simms at her home/studio in Flint, Michigan!

So this is a "star-filled" few months for me!

What a shame, Kate! Her classes are fun and informative.

She's always generous about that sort of thing. Do you remember when she used to visit this group from time to time? Now she doesn't really have time for that, since she has her own Yahoo group, but she was always very willing to help when people had paper piecing questions.

I've done a couple of minis using paper piecing, and I have to agree that they're easier than the larger quilts. That's because you're not trying to maneuver a large quilt through the machine. I'm really enjoying making a series of 3" blocks from her patterns, and I've made some 2" blocks, too, that ended up in a row-by-row quilt.

Wow! What fun you're going to have! :D
