Do you have a favorite? I just am so grateful to see Unfortunate Star. I put one together years ago that looked more like a desperate signal flag from a sinking ship but mine just never compared to Unfortunate. Polly

Oh Polly, what great timing. And here I was, so upset about the little pucker I can't get rid of on the Christmas wall hanging I'm frantically trying to finish. I don't feel anywhere near as bad now :)

Bless you, Polly, that was a half-hour wasted on mingled laughter and commiseration. It just goes to show that even the best of intentions can produce a quilt that even I would not put on my bed! Sadly, I could see in most cases what the quilter *wanted* to do but could not--usually from lack of knowledge and experience. BTDT and believe me, my first efforts would make most of those quilts look pretty good!

The bread wrapper batting was especially touching. Ignorance combined with creativity can really produce some monsters as well as beauties. I wonder if I would have used bread wrappers in my first quilt if I'd thought of that!

Well, I was pretty sure that the long-time quilters had seen some of these, but I thought we could all use a laugh / cry break. Seeing those does make you go back to whatever you're doing with hope. Polly

One of the HoHo presents for a neighbor's great-grandbaby is an elephant whose ears are stuffed with something delightfully crinkle-crackle-rustle sounding. We've wondered what the stuffing is. It seems to be louder than bread wrappers, more like potato chip bags. When we run out of things to do, we'll have to pursue that great sound. Polly

Perfect timing as always. Polly, you just 'know' what we need when we need it. Thank you

About 9 years ago a friend gave me a quilt his mother had made, and asked me to repair it. It would have been there on this site Polly gave us. It was hideous and smelly and falling aprt - and he hadn't had it that long. I never could get the right breathing equipment to work with that quilt, and eventually he took it back. Gee, wonder where it is now......

Thanks for the laughts and commiserati> Well, I was pretty sure that the long-time quilters had seen some of these,

I doubt it Di lol

I had the interesting experience of attempting to teach a dear lady how to make a Round the World quilt once. She made the four sections with "hit-and-miss" accuracy but - rather than wait for her next lesson - she then attempted to sew the four rectangles together WITHOUT the centre patch by stretching and pleating the mismatched seams. Having ALMOST managed to avoid having a hole in the centre of the panel she proceeded to "quilt" the panel onto an electric blanket that she had cut the plugs off. She did not think binding was necessary at all.

I never got to see the final result as her daughter (a "real" quilter) told me that her mum had decided that quilting was not for her. P was appalled by what her mother had done, but I just asked if her DM was happy with the results of her sewing. Turns out she was, and the dog had a "beautiful" new blanket.

If the maker was happy then I figured the quilt was a success. But I am guessing it might have qualified for display in this illustrious company.
