No matter how bad

Howdy!

Roberta reminds me:

A cowboy walks into a bar and orders a whiskey. As the barman¹s pouring it the cowboy looks about him.   ³Where is everybody?² he says.   ³Gone to the hanging,² says the barman   ³Hanging?² says the cowboy. ³Who they hanging?²   ³Brownpaper Pete², replies the barman.   ³Brownpaper Pete? Why do they call him that?²   ³Well,² says the barman. ³His hat¹s made of brown paper, his shirt¹s made of brown paper, his jacket¹s made of brown paper and his trousers are made of brown paper.²   ³Really?² says the cowboy. ³What they hanging him for?²

...

  ³Rustling.²

Thanks Cheryl, I find it difficult to think that people would actually want to make a 'disaster of a quilt.

My disaster was my very first ever quilt was for my eldest daughter and I had a very old electric machine that someone had lent me - I made a flannelette quilt with absolutely no instruction from anyone, just my own idea of what it should look like - nothing met at the seams, it wasn't 'square', they were 3 inch strips cut and sewn in squares to look like it was meant to be that way. But, I loved it then and love it now. I truly believed that it was beautiful. I'll try and find it and take a pic of it :>)

I guess they had fun doing them though.

Carolyn, Perhaps the bread wrappers were done to win a prize. I suspect some of those "problems" were purposeful. IIRC, when Ami Simms started the "Ugliest Quilt" contest, the entries were mostly quilts made with actual errors. As time went on, quilters *purposely* made some very odd "blunders" ... and so the contest took a different turn. Ami discontinued the contest some time ago. The photos are not recent.

It was more fun when the ugliness were truly the result of poor planning, weird fabrics, etc. A member of my guild was an early winner. She did NOT plan to make an ugly quilt ... it just happened to a newbie. She won a very nice set of templates from ARDCO. Since the ARDCO people happen to belong to our guild, they made the presentation at a guild meeting, rather than just mail it. It was in good fun ... not being mean.

You can buy mylar sheets in a craft store for just this purpose. If you are into recycling you could use a mylar balloon (deflated of course) or a well washed mylar potato chip bag. Debra in VA See my quilts at
