Reknown quilt teacher stays with me!

Our Gold Coast guild has just completed two workshops by Vikki Pignatelli from Columbus OH. The workshops are part of a New Zealand (quilt symposium at Easter) and Australian tour. I was on the sub- committee organising the Aussie tour which took a year of organising to bring other quilt groups on board and working out a suitable itinerary with Vikki. Vikki was so popular we ran two workshops for a total of 35+ students. Vikki travels with her DH and the two of them billeted at my place for

5 nights. They were charming guests and good fun too. It was such a thrill. They loved having breakfast on the sundeck (lovely views over the city and coastline) each morning, and a well-earned drink and cheese plate in the late afternoon. One evening I hosted a dinner for 15 - quilters and their DH's. We had dinner out one night at another quilters.

The only problem was I got sick with a headcold the week before they arrived which really hampered me cleaning the house and organising menus etc. I managed it, just, but was really not 'firing on all six cyclinders' when they were here. I didn't do much at the workshop, the brain was not functioning but I loved her work and design patterns and look forward to working on my own with it when I feel better. On Friday before VIkki travelled to her next engagement, I took them to a fauna park where we got up close and personal with adorable koalas, kangaroos and wombats. Vikki fed the brightly coloured lorikeet birds which she thought was a blast. I'll put some pix up on the webshots later and advise the link. Vikki's trip is taking about 6 weeks in total, she has another week and a bit to go. The weather (autumn/fall here) has been beautiful. sunny skies and mild temperatures.

All in all a great success. Hugs Bronnie (trying to get really well again)

I'm so jealous I could just cry. I love Vickie's work and would love to take a class from her. You are amazingly fortunate. And I bet you did just great. Sounds like you gave them a very lovely stay and represented your guild and your part of the universe quite well. I love lorikeets. Used to know a man who raised them. But they're a bit messy, if you know what I mean. Liquid diet does that for a bird, LOL. I wonder if Vickie will include lorikeets in her work?

Those pictures are great. I want to come visit too! I'm glad you enjoyed her visit even though you weren't feeling up to par. She's such a wonderful teacher and a lovely person too.

Sounds like a wonderful week, Bronnie. What a shame you were unwell, after all the build-up. But I'm sure you will be able to look back on it all with great pleasure and satisfaction -despite the snuffles at the time. Great pictures - someone having a terrific time! Your guests are going to have wonderful memories too. Thanks for sharing. . In message , Bronnie writes

I can't believe you let Vikki get away. Believe me, if I ever get to have Carol Doak here for a visit, she's not leaving. No sireee. I'm going to keep her until I'm as smart as she is. That could take a while. Polly

----------------------------------------------------- Polly, she came to my guild a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun. She lives up here in my part of New Hampshire.

That sounds like loads of fun, Bronnie. It's so nice you were able to share your lovely locale with Vikki and her DH. Breakfast on the sundeck....how wonderful! So sorry you had to catch cold, but at least it was the week BEFORE she came rather than during.

Looking forward to your pics!

Golly they were pretty lucky! Bet you enjoyed it too. :) Sorry you were under the weather. Hope you are feeling well soon. Sounds like a fun time was had by a lot of folks for all your work. That is really neat. I'll look forward to seeing some of the neat stuff you will do with what you learned. Taria
