Carol Doak gets 5 gold stars

The cd I gave me for my birthday came in today. Not only do I give Carol Doak 5 gold stars but also hereby award her 100 or so points for a perfect score. What a wonderful cd lesson. Could be even better than in person because I can replay anything I want to just over and over. (She might get tired of that 'live and in person'). I had tried my hand at paper piecing many times but never was pleased with the results and certainly never thought it anything but tedious. When you begin a list of nice things for you for a gift, I highly recommend Carol Doak Teaches You to Paper Piece. I am not affiliated but can be had. Polly Esther

I did not approach Carol's cd with a good attitude. I really expected that when I had suffered through 90 minutes of babble and giggle that I would still be sitting there thinking, "Yes, but . . .?". It is really hard for me to endure chirpy patronizing teaching. She never gets so excited that you need a sedative and she never has the manner of someone accustomed to herding cats. They even show the blips and laughter when she begins the section on correcting mistakes with "I never make mistakes". Ah yes. Carol's cd is a happy lesson. Polly

I'm terrified of paper piecing..... I simply can't wrap my mind around it. But.... maybe if the library has the CD, I'll take a gander. I love the sharp points and "exactness" of paper piecing - maybe that's what makes me flinch..... I've heard lots of good things about Carol Doak's method.

The first piecing I ever attempted on my own (without Mom at hand to guide me) and I really like it. Of course, rotary quick piecing is my preferred method now because I'm impatient and want vast areas of quilt done Right Now. But I do love the intricacy and detail one can get with paper piecing. I miss my subscription to Quilts With Style... Maybe that's what I'll get me for Christmas...;-)

I loudly second that emotion! Carol's instruction cd's and her patterns are the bestest!

Yay! I'm so glad it worked for you, Polly! Now may I recommend that you join her Yahoo group? She's *so* generous with her time and advice, and she keeps coming up with fun challenges for us all -- challenges that are entirely optional, of course, so that there's no real pressure if time is running short. I can hardly wait for my class with her in Houston in a few weeks!

Can I sit on your shoulder when you have the class. I'll be quiet and promise not to flit about. Won't even move my Wings whilst sitting there. I always did want to meet her one day and this just might be the 'one day'.Your class wouldn't happen to be BEFORE we have our luncheon meet-up--so maybe you could ask her to join us long enuf to day "Howdy"?

Butterfly (think I have most of her books except the one on the vests)

Uh -- could you please move your wings? I have a bad back and will need help holding anything more than a feather on my shoulder for that long. ;)

It's a full-day class, Butterfly, but I can ask her to join us if she doesn't already have plans. She did join us once for lunch (scroll down the to third pic at ), and she tried to last year but didn't see us. :S

And I have *almost* all of them, too!

I have her DVD here and I watched it a few times and loves the fact that she makes it simple. I am going to attempt my first pp soon. Right now I have so many projects on my plate I need to at least get the top quilts done before I go off on another adventure....

Carol Doak Teaches You to Paper Piece

it's the one just above the PP starter packs - looks like a book but isn't

could you please tell me the title of this CD, does it come with a book ?? Looked at Carol's website, but haven't got a clue which one you mean. Love the results of PP, but hate the process Heidi from Germany

Heidi, it's actually a DVD -- looks the same as a CD, right? ;) Anyway, it's called "Carol Doak Teaches You to Paper Piece" and is located about halfway down the page at . HTH. :)

*snerk* Perhaps some entertainment might be derived combining them? Not much competent work, but maybe a little entertainment. Probably more fun to watch someone else though. That way you'd remember what happened...;-P
